Chapter 118: Told her not to go, but she still goes

Everyone’s face looked strange for a moment.

Zhang Laoda spat angrily: “Damn it if I had known, I would have fetched more water just now.”

After dinner, everyone had packed up, and the bald man and the woman came out of the side hall.

The woman covered her face, and Gu Fei saw that there were faint traces of tears on her chin.

When the woman passed by Gu Rong, Gu Rong turned his head and spat fiercely on the ground.

The woman and the bald man still sat down in front of the fire in the main hall.

Uncle Ma suddenly patted Chen Hu on the shoulder and winked at him.

Chen Hu followed Uncle Ma out.

Uncle Ma whispered: “Come with me to look around.”

The two went around the side of the main hall to the back. There was another main hall in the back, with a wooden statue of Guanyin, the paint peeling off and covered with dust.

This main hall was smaller than the front hall, and there were two side halls next to it.

Uncle Ma looked around and went into the side hall on the left with Chen Hu.

As soon as they entered, they were stunned.

There was a hook hanging on the beam of the side hall.

It was a thick iron hook used to sell pork in the market.

A human skeleton was hanging on the hook. The meat had been removed, leaving only a skeleton and a head, with two pieces missing from the cheeks.

The two hurriedly retreated and looked at each other. Uncle Ma clenched his fists and said: “Beast!”

Chen Hai’s face was distorted, and he gritted his teeth and said: “Uncle Ma, why don’t we kill those guys?”

Uncle Ma took a deep breath and shook his head after a long time: “The world is like this, what’s the point of killing them?”

“Let’s go, be more alert at night.”

Turning to the front hall, they ran into Gu Fei, Lian’er, and Lanzhi, and the three of them went to relieve themselves together.

Uncle Ma stopped: “You guys, don’t go to the side hall at the back.”

Gu Fei responded, and the others found an empty room in the alley on the side of the side hall.

Gu Fei walked out and couldn’t help looking back. If Uncle Ma hadn’t said it, she wouldn’t have wanted to go there. Uncle Ma’s words aroused her curiosity.

While Lanzhi was still tying her pants, she quickly slipped under the window of the side hall and took a look inside.

After just one look, Gu Fei ran back with a pale face.

After packing up and returning to the main hall, Uncle Ma saw that Gu Fei’s face was pale and sneered: “I told you not to go, but you insisted on going!”

Gu Fei looked at Uncle Ma with resentment: If you hadn’t said it, I wouldn’t have gone. Don’t you know that curiosity kills the cat?

She suddenly turned her head and looked at the woman leaning against the bald man.

This woman abandoned her husband and children to survive, without any shame.

But who knows, when will this bald man get tired of her, and she will be the next one to be hung on the beam?

A famine caused by a drought has forced out all the evil in human nature.

No one knows what they will become when they fall into that situation, and they were not necessarily much better than this woman and these men.

Perhaps because there were many people here, or perhaps because those men were full and have stored food, this night was quiet, and everyone has spent the night in peace.

Get up early, have breakfast, and continue on the road.

Compared with Xishan County, Hedong County has slightly fewer disaster victims, but there were still many refugees walking aimlessly with bags on their backs on the official road.

After walking for a few days, nothing serious happened.

That night, everyone found a village beside the official road to stay.

There was no one in the village.

Everyone did not dare to disperse, so they found a larger house and started to build a stove and cook.

Mrs. Chen had just finished cooking when Aunt Huang came over and said hesitantly: “Second sister-in-law Gu, half a bag of my food was stolen earlier. I’m out of food now, so I’d like to borrow some from your family.”
