Gu Fei turned to Lanzhi and said: “After I leave, make sure to settle the accounts properly and refund the guests for today’s room charges.”
Lanzhi was already frightened to the point of tears. She grabbed Gu Fei’s sleeve and shook her head repeatedly. She had been to the prison once before. How can that place be for humans to stay?
Gu Fei smiled at her, then she gently pulled her sleeve free, and said to Lian’er: “Once Lanzhi finishes the accounts, close the shop and go back to tell my father not to worry or do anything unnecessary. I’m just going for a visit. Nothing will happen.”
The head official waved his hand impatiently: “Enough with the chatter! Hurry up and take this girl away!”
Two yamen runners stepped forward, twisted Gu Fei’s arms behind her back, and began to drag her out.
By now, both inside and outside the shop was crowded with people. As Gu Fei was brought out, the crowd quickly parted to make way.
A neighbor who knew the situation whispered by the roadside: “Old Huang’s shop is cursed. First, that troublemaker Er Lai stopped coming, and now the yamen officials are here. What a disaster!”
Just as they reached the entrance of the shop, the sound of galloping horses grew louder and closer.
The crowd on the street scattered as several horses came charging forward.
At the forefront was a young nobleman.
This nobleman had sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, wearing a gleaming golden crown on his head and draped in a luxurious black mink cloak. His handsome appearance and imposing aura were striking.
The horses came to a halt in front of the shop.
Xiao Yu had been waiting all morning in his mansion for Gu Fei to come and seek his help.
He waited and waited, but she never showed up. Finally, Shitou slapped his forehead and said: “Young Master, thinking about it, it seems Miss Gu doesn’t know your identity. And even if she did, the gatekeeper might not let her in.”
Xiao Yu was furious: “Why didn’t you think of that earlier? This was your stupid idea!”
Shitou quickly tried to make amends: “How about we go to Miss Gu’s shop after lunch? I’ll discreetly let her know your identity, and she’ll naturally come to you for help.”
Xiao Yu scolded him: “Idiot! Who cares about lunch? Isn’t the girl running an inn? We won’t go hungry there!”
So, he set out with Shitou and Zhuzi on horseback.
From a distance, they could see a crowd gathered outside the shop as if something had happened. Xiao Yu urged his horse forward and saw Gu Fei being escorted out by two yamen runners.
Seeing the two despicable men restraining Gu Fei with her hands twisted behind her back as if she were a criminal, Xiao Yu’s anger erupted instantly. Without even dismounting, he raised his whip and lashed out at one of the yamen runners.
The yamen runners were struck across the face, let out a blood-curdling scream, released Gu Fei, and fell to the ground, clutching his face and writhing in pain.
The other yamen runners, who were still in shock, were stepped on by Xiao Yu when he dismounted.
Xiao Yu, who had trained in martial arts for years and fueled by his rage, put all his strength and kicked the yamen runner. The yamen runner was sent flying several feet backward and landed heavily on the ground.
The other yamen runners following behind were not spared from Xiao Yu’s wrath either. His whip rained down on them like a storm, and they screamed in pain, scrambling to escape with their heads covered.
Gu Fei stood there, completely stunned.
Young Master Zhou, standing by the door, was so excited that his lips trembled. He grabbed Dan Jie beside him and stammered: “It’s—it’s the Young Master!”
The one who had just beaten the yamen runners was none other than Prince Qi’s son, Xiao Yu!
He had seen Xiao Yu from a distance a few times before. Young Master Zhu had told him that this was the Young Prince. Since he moved to Ping’an City, it was crucial to know who could not be offended.
