Chapter 241: Young Master Xu

Gu Fei fell to the ground and watched Housekeeper Wu being surrounded by several servants and entering a small door in the backyard of Prince Qi’s mansion.

She got up from the ground and looked at her left palm. Her skin was scratched and the sand and dust were all over her hand, black and red.

She walked back with a gloomy face. She didn’t expect that Housekeeper Wu was so difficult to deal with.

According to him, if she doesn’t close her business this morning, he will take action in the afternoon.

What does he want to do?

Gu Fei quickened her pace and walked for half an hour before returning to the inn.

When she reached the door, a carriage stopped.

A handsome young man came out of the car. Gu Fei was slightly startled. It was Su Chen!

Su Chen also saw Gu Fei. His eyes were full of surprise that he could not hide: “Miss Xiao Gu–”

Gu Fei smiled and bowed to him: “Young Master Su.”

At this time, another young man got out of the carriage.

The man’s eyes lit up when he looked at Gu Fei: “So the girl’s surname is Gu.”

Gu Fei glanced at the man and felt that he looked familiar. After thinking carefully, wasn’t this the young man who picked up Lanzhi’s handkerchief on the night of the Lantern Festival?

Young Master Su pointed at the man and said: “This is my classmate in the academy, Young Master Xu.”

“Have you met?”

Young Master Xu held a folding fan in his hand, patted it lightly, and said with a smile: “I am lucky to meet Miss Gu on the street on the Lantern Festival.”

As he was talking, Lian’er came out and was surprised to see Gu Fei: “Miss, where did you fall?”

As she spoke, she patted the dust off Gu Fei’s skirt.

While patting her, Lian’er cried out, “Oh, Miss, your hand is broken!”

Su Chen then saw that Gu Fei’s left hand was covered with dust and blood. His heart couldn’t help but twitch, and he hurriedly called Lian’er: “Help your Miss in quickly.”

Lian’er really reached out to help, and Gu Fei smiled: “No need to help, just go get a basin of water for me to wash my hands.”

Then she walked into the house, and Lian’er ran to get water.

Lanzhi was originally craning her neck behind the counter to look outside the door.

When she heard that Gu Fei had hurt her hand, she quickly put down her embroidery frame, ran out, grabbed Gu Fei’s hand, and pulled her to sit down: “Oh, how did you fall like this, where have you been so early in the morning!”

Young Master Xu saw Lanzhi nearby, and a surprised smile suddenly appeared on his face: “So the girl is here too.”

Lanzhi looked at him inexplicably.

Seeing that Lanzhi didn’t recognize him at all, Young Master Xu threw away the folding fan in his hand: “Miss, don’t you remember? I picked up your handkerchief on the Lantern Festival.”

Lanzhi then remembered, bowed to Young Master Xu, and turned away slightly without saying anything.

Lian’er fetched water, Gu Fei washed her hands, and Lanzhi took a needle from her lapel to pick out the sand embedded in her skin.

Su Chen watched from the side, and his heart trembled every time Lanzhi’s needle picked it up.

When the sand was picked out, he couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief.

Lian’er brought the ointment and a clean cloth strip, and Lanzhi carefully helped Gu Fei wrap it.

Young Master Xu seemed to be crazy, his eyes glued to Lanzhi’s face.

Lanzhi wrapped Gu Fei’s hand and raised her head, suddenly meeting Young Master Xu’s gaze. Her face turned slightly red, and she thought of something, looking a little angry. She stood up and went to the counter to embroider the handkerchief.

Young Master Xu did not hide his gaze, and his gaze continued to follow Lanzhi.

Gu Fei wanted to pretend that she didn’t see it, but it was no use. Young Master Xu’s gaze was too explicit. She frowned slightly and coughed lightly: “Young Master Xu!”

Chapter 240: Housekeeper Wu

After getting up early and opening the door, Gu Fei asked Lanzhi to guard the counter, and she went in the direction of Prince Qi Mansion.

This matter cannot be delayed. When Er Laizi meets Housekeeper Wu, he will know that Er Laizi is useless, and who knows what new things will happen.

As long as people live in Ping’an City, they know Prince Qi’s Mansion.

The mansion occupies a whole street, and their servants live in the backstreet.

Gu Fei walked to the backstreet, found an old man sweeping the street, and asked about Housekeeper Wu’s residence.

Housekeeper Wu lived in a three-story house with two black lacquered doors closed.

After passing the gate and walking a short distance, a small door next to it was open.

Gu Fei went over, bowed to the yawning doorman, handed him a piece of silver, and said with a smile: “Hello, little brother. I want to see Housekeeper Wu for something. I wonder if you can pass it on.”

The servant skillfully put the silver into his sleeve: “Tell me where you are from first. So many people who want to see our housekeeper all day long.”

“I am the tenant of Old Man Huang’s store on Furong Street. When you say this, Housekeeper Wu will understand.”

The servant was a little puzzled. When did Housekeeper Wu recognize a tenant? The people who usually came and went here were either officials or wealthy merchants.

But looking at the girl’s appearance, it seems that she was sure that Housekeeper Wu would meet her.

The servant nodded. After receiving the money, it would not be a problem to pass the message: “You wait here, I’ll go in and pass the message.”

The servant went out for half a cup of tea, came out, and waved to Gu Fei: “Go, go, the housekeeper said that he would not see you.”

Gu Fei frowned and asked: “Brother, did you understand what I said just now?”

The servant sneered: “Why didn’t you explain it clearly? The tenant of Old Man Huang’s store in Furong Street, the master, said that he would not see you!”

Gu Fei nodded: “Thank you very much, brother.”

She bowed and turned to leave.

After walking out of the servant’s sight, Gu Fei stood still. She had to see housekeeper Wu today anyway. He had to work in the palace. She would wait here. She didn’t believe she couldn’t wait for him!

Not long after waiting, Gu Fei saw several people coming out of the door from a distance.

The first one was a middle-aged man, wearing a dark blue cloud pattern brocade robe, with a thin figure and sharp eyes.

Almost the moment Gu Fei looked over, the middle-aged man’s eyes swept over.

Gu Fei walked towards him with confidence and bowed to him: “Housekeeper Wu?”

Housekeeper Wu saw that it was a pretty young lady and paused: “You are——”

“I am a tenant of Old Man Huang’s store on Furong Street.” Gu Fei showed a friendly smile.

Housekeeper Wu’s expression suddenly changed, and his eyes stared at Gu Fei gloomily: “It was you who asked for an audience just now? Who gave you the courage to come here?”

Gu Fei lowered her head, with a humble look: “Housekeeper Wu, I came to you helplessly, and I want to ask you to give my shop a way out.”

“I fled to Ping’an City and finally opened an inn. I just want to make a living. I beg you to spare my shop.”

Housekeeper Wu snorted coldly: “Who told you to rent that shop without long eyes? Since you are here, it saves me the effort. I will give you half a day to get the rent back close the door and leave.”

“Otherwise–” He looked at Gu Fei with a look of looking at a dead dog and walked away.

“Housekeeper Wu——” Gu Fei was anxious to catch up.

However, after following him for two steps, a servant behind Housekeeper Wu stopped her and said: “Get away from here. Our housekeeper has so many things to do every day, and so many people are waiting to see him. How can he have time to talk to you, a young lady!”

As the servant said this, he suddenly stretched out his hand and pushed Gu Fei. Gu Fei didn’t notice it for a moment and was pushed to the ground by him. Her palm rubbed on the ground, burning with pain.

Chapter 239: I don’t want her gratitude, that’s for sure

Er Laizi squeezed his eyes together and stared at the tip of Gu Fei’s dagger: “Yes, he lives in a courtyard on the backstreet of Prince Qi’s Mansion, you can go there and ask, and you’ll know.”

Gu Fei nodded: “Okay, I’ll go find him myself, every grievance has its perpetrator, my feud with you ends here.”

“On the premise that you never mess up my store again.”

“If you dare to mess up again, your life will be in jeopardy.”

Er Laizi stared at the dagger: “I dare not, I will never dare again.”

At this time, the bed made a slight creaking sound, Gu Fei glanced inside the bed, and the woman wrapped in the quilt was shivering.

Gu Fei was somewhat amused, retracted her gaze, and slowly said: “Then it’s settled.”

“In the future, if you pass that street, you walk across the street, do you hear me?”

Er Laizi’s voice trembled: “Yes, yes, I, I will try not to pass that street in the future.”

Xiao Yu was lying on the roof and heard it funny.

It was not a big deal, just a gangster who went to the store to make trouble, just beat him to death, as for this late at night, holding a dagger to scare people?

On second thought, Housekeeper Wu was also the same, he can bully others, so how can you bully Xiao Fei?

After asking, Gu Fei climbed out of the window, and even closed the window as it was, to prevent Er Laizi from catching a cold.

She put away the dagger and walked back, thinking, Housekeeper Wu was a rich bastard for three generations, and a servant of a prince.

He was not like Er Laizi, she could beat and scare him.

The chief steward of Prince Qi’s Mansion was powerful. It was estimated that the governor of Donghai County would have to be polite when seeing him.

This man must be dealt with in other ways.

He must not be killed. Prince Qi’s Mansion will not let her go if she kills him, and she doesn’t want to commit any capital crime.

Better talk to Housekeeper Wu tomorrow.

Gu Fei walked quickly and arrived at the inn in about two-quarters of an hour. She took out the key to open the side door, pushed the door in, and turned around to bolt the door.

Xiao Yu was lying on the roof. When he saw Gu Fei enter the house, he jumped down from the roof and walked towards Prince Qi’s Mansion.

After walking a few steps, Xiao Yu said to Shitou: “Tell Housekeeper Wu tomorrow that I order him not to bother Xiao Fei again.”

Shitou glanced at his young master: “Young Master, actually, you don’t have to be so anxious about this matter.”

Xiao Yu raised an eyebrow and looked at him.

“Think about it. If I go and tell Housekeeper Wu about it, Xiao Fei won’t know that you help her behind the scenes. Isn’t this a waste of this good opportunity?”

Xiao Yu had a blank expression on his face: “What do you mean to say?”

Shitou’s mouth curled up proudly: “Of course, we should wait for Xiao Fei to beg you. Think about it. If Xiao Fei knows that it was Housekeeper Wu who was behind the scenes, will she have any other way to solve this problem except to come to you?”

“When the time comes, if you help her again, Xiao Fei will be grateful.”

Xiao Yu snorted coldly. “I don’t want her gratitude.”

Shitou rolled his eyes silently: Prince, let’s see how long you’ll be stubborn.

Sure enough, Xiao Yu didn’t walk two steps and said: “Forget it. Let’s not talk to Housekeeper Wu first. I don’t bother to care about that girl.”

The two of them didn’t walk far before they saw Zhuzi squatting on the side of the street with a sad face. He tied three horses to the side of the road.

Seeing the two, Zhuzi cried with joy: “Young Master, you’re back. Can you please not abandon me in the future?”

Xiao Yu snorted, untied the reins, jumped on the horse, and the three horses rushed straight to the mansion.

Chapter 238: Crazy

Gu Fei calmed down and climbed in through the window.

She squinted her eyes and looked around. The room was very small. There was only a table, a bed, and two chairs.

There were two people lying on the bed. Gu Fei got closer and looked. Although the light was dim, she could still tell that the man lying outside was Er Laizi, with a cloth wrapped around his head.

She turned her wrist and a dagger appeared in her hand. She covered Er Laizi’s mouth with one hand and stabbed Er Laizi’s arm with the dagger.

Er Laizi woke up immediately, opened his eyes, and saw a figure in front of him. He wanted to scream instinctively, but Gu Fei covered his mouth, blocking his voice in his throat.

Gu Fei lowered her voice and said: “Don’t shout. If you shout, I can’t hold the dagger in my hand.”

“I came here just to ask you a few questions. If you answer them obediently, I won’t kill you.”

Xiao Yu lay on the roof, listening carefully to the movements below.

It was very quiet at night, and he could hear Gu Fei’s words.

Er Laizi heard her voice and then saw that it was Gu Fei.

He was panicked for a moment. This time he really met a tough guy, and he didn’t know how she got here.

His eyes were wide open, and he blinked repeatedly to show his agreement.

Gu Fei said softly: “You agreed not to scream, so I will let go.”

After letting go, Er Laizi’s eyes fell on the dagger in Gu Fei’s hand, which was shining with cold light. The dagger swayed in front of his eyelids, and Er Laizi dared not move.

Gu Fei said slowly: “I just want to ask you, who is the person who ordered you to make trouble in my store?”

Xiao Yu on the roof was stunned when he heard it. Make trouble?

Did someone go to her store to make trouble?

She ran here in the middle of the night just for this?

Er Laizi’s voice was filled with fear: “I, I can’t say it. If I say it, that person won’t let me go.”

Gu Fei took the dagger and gently poked Er Laizi’s face: “If you don’t say it, you will die now. If you say it, you may not die. I think everyone knows how to choose.”

Er Laizi was poked by the tip of the knife, and a chill seemed to pass from the tip of the knife to the bottom of his heart: “I say, I say, that person is the housekeeper of Prince Qi Mansion.”

Gu Fei frowned: “What’s his surname and name?”

“I’m afraid there is more than one housekeeper in the Qi Wang Mansion. Who knows who you are talking about?”

Er Laizi hurriedly said: “There is only one housekeeper, his surname is Wu, and his name is Dahai.”

Xiao Yu was confused. Why did Housekeeper Wu let people cause trouble for Xiao Fei?

“Did you tell him what I told you to tell him yesterday?”

Er Laizi stuttered, “No, no, I was thinking of taking your money first and then going to him to claim the reward.”

Gu Fei patted his face with a dagger: “You see, you just don’t listen. If you had told him, you might not have had this experience today.”

“Then do you know why Housekeeper Wu did this?”

Er Laizi nodded vigorously, the flesh on his chin squeezed into a ball: “I know, he has a grudge against my eldest brother, he doesn’t want my eldest brother to have a good life.”

Gu Fei said coldly, “If there is a grudge, just kill him. I think that Old Man Huang is living a good life. Why don’t you mess with him instead of messing with these tenants? What do you mean by this?”

“Are you mentally ill?”

Er Laizi shook his head repeatedly: “No, no, Housekeeper Wu swore that he would never do anything to my eldest brother, but he didn’t want my eldest brother to live a good life, so he could only mess with these tenants.”

Gu Fei snorted: “Crazy!”

“Where does Housekeeper Wu live?”

Chapter 237: Tailing

Gu Fei nodded: “Okay, I got it, thank you very much today.”

The little beggar smiled at Gu Fei and ran away quickly.

Gu Fei walked into the alley, counted to the third house, stood at the door, and listened.

Then a woman inside said: “You can’t beat that girl, what are you doing, you didn’t get the money, and you came back with a bloody head, and I have to use the money to buy medicine for you!”

Then the man’s voice sounded: “What are you afraid of, it’s just a beating, I’m not dead yet. Don’t worry, I will go to that person tomorrow to ask for the reward.”

“That person is generous, seeing me like this, he will give more reward money.”

Gu Fei listened for a while and left quietly.

Back to the inn, waited until the middle of the night, and closed the door as usual.

Gu Fei returned to her room and sent Lian’er to sleep with Lanzhi.

She lay on the bed and took a nap for a while, listening to the night watch outside: “Dong! – Dong, Dong!”

Gu Fei knew it was the hour of Hai, which was eleven o’clock evening. She got up from the bed, took out a black hooded sweater from the space, put it on, put the hood on her head, and then slipped out of the room.

Walking to the side door, Gu Fei pulled the bolt, walked outside, and locked the side door with a lock.

Then she walked along the street to the west of the city.

There was no curfew in Ping’an City, and pedestrians could walk on the street at night.

But at this time, except for the patrol soldiers and the night watchmen, basically no one else was walking.

Those who were still walking on the street at this time were either in a hurry or not good people.

After walking for a while, Gu Fei suddenly heard the sound of horse hooves coming from far away.

Gu Fei dodged to the side and hid behind a pillar. When the sound of horse hooves went away, she walked forward again.

Xiao Yu was riding on the horse, thinking about the figure he had just seen. No matter how he looked at it, the figure was very familiar.

He suddenly pulled the reins hard and got off the horse: “I have something to do, you two go back first.”

Shitou was shocked and got off the horse, and hurriedly told Zhuzi: “I will follow you, you go back first.”

Zhuzi looked at the two horses that had lost their owners and wanted to cry without tears.

Xiao Yu jumped onto the roof with a few leaps, and Shitou followed him onto the roof.

Xiao Yu frowned and lowered his voice: “Why are you following me? Didn’t I tell you to go back?”

Shitou had a bitter face: “Young Master, if I don’t follow you, I’m afraid I won’t live to see the sun tomorrow.”

Xiao Yu frowned and said nothing more. He crouched and walked quickly to the place where he met Gu Fei just now.

Soon, Xiao Yu saw Gu Fei.

She walked in the shadows on the street, her steps were urgent and fast.

Xiao Yu stared at the figure on the roadside and confirmed that it was Gu Fei without a doubt.

He didn’t know why, but he recognized her after just a glance.

For a moment, he didn’t know what to feel.

Did he misjudge her?

A girl wearing a strange nightgown in the middle of the night, couldn’t be taking a walk.

Shitou didn’t recognize Gu Fei.

He just didn’t understand why the prince would bother with this matter when she was just a thief in a nightgown.

Gu Fei quickly walked to the alley she had been to before.

She counted to the third house, stood at the door for a while, and put her ear to the door to listen carefully.

A man was snoring in the room.

Gu Fei pushed the door and bolted it from the inside.

She walked to the window and pulled the window. The window opened with a “creak”, which scared Gu Fei.

On the roof opposite, Xiao Yu watched Gu Fei tremble, he laughed inside his heart, but also felt anxious inexplicably.

Chapter 236: Do me a favor

Then Gu Fei took a stick and moved flexibly among several gangsters, hitting their legs and heads.

Tie Niu was not idle nearby. Although he knew that his cousin knew martial arts, there were four big men there, and his cousin could not handle it alone. He also rushed up and beat up a gangster regardless of anything.

Xiao Lu and Pingzi were not a close relative like Tie Niu, so they didn’t dare to do anything. They were just here to work and didn’t want to get into trouble.

Aunt Liu was originally wiping the table. Seeing this, she grabbed the broom by the door and rushed out, beating up several gangsters without thinking.

Originally, they were just gangsters with no fighting power. Er Laizi was beaten the hardest by Gu Fei. Gu Fei hit his head hard with the rolling pin in her hand several times. The last time, the rolling pin in Gu Fei’s hand was broken, and Er Laizi rolled on the ground with his head in his arms.

Then Tie Niu, relying on his young, strong, and tall advantages, also knocked the man down.

Gu Fei hit another gangster on the knee with a stick, and the gangster fell with his legs softened.

Aunt Liu was left holding a big broom and kept hitting the remaining gangster on the head.

The gangster protected his head and face with both hands and shouted repeatedly: “Stop hitting, stop hitting——”

While shouting, he saw his accomplices fall to the ground, turned around, and ran away quickly.

Gu Fei kicked Er Laizi on the ground fiercely: “Get out of here, I will beat you to death if you dare to come again——”

Er Laizi stumbled up with his head covered, and Gu Fei realized that his head was broken and blood was flowing from his fingers.

“Little girl, you are so cruel, wait for me, there will be a time when you will regret it.”

Er Laizi said a cruel word, and he and the remaining two people supported each other and limped away.

Gu Fei squinted her eyes. It was not a good idea to let this idiot come to make trouble every day. She had to find the person behind him.

She had an idea instantly. She turned her eyes and saw a little beggar squatting in the corner. She walked over and said to the little beggar: “Do me a favor and find out where that idiot is staying tonight.”

As she spoke, she put a handful of copper coins into the little beggar’s broken bowl.

The little beggar moved quickly, took the copper coins into his arms, and smiled at Gu Fei, showing a few teeth: “Don’t worry, Shopkeeper Gu, I’ll tell you when I see it.”

Gu Fei smiled and watched the little beggar run away quickly. He soon caught up with Er Laizi and the others and then followed slowly.

Gu Fei was relieved, walked back to the restaurant, and smiled at the guests who were eating: “I’m sorry, I scared everyone, I’ll give you 20% off when we settle the bill later.”

A guest smiled and replied: “The shopkeeper is very good at fighting, and she is also a good person!”

Gu Fei smiled and went to the kitchen to cook again.

At 7 or 8 p.m., the little beggar came but didn’t enter the inn. He stood at the door and called Gu Fei: “Shopkeeper Gu——”

Gu Fei hurried out and asked in a low voice: “Where is it?”

The little beggar also lowered his voice, “In a secret door in the west of the city, it’s not easy to find, I’ll take you there.”

Gu Fei raised her foot to leave and asked the little beggar: “Have you had dinner?”

The little beggar said embarrassed: “Shopkeeper Gu, I’m lucky to have one meal a day, so there’s no such thing as breakfast and dinner.”

“Then wait a minute.” Gu Fei returned to the restaurant, took two steamed buns from the kitchen, and told Erlang again before going out.

She handed the steamed bun to the little beggar, who put one in his sleeve and ate the remaining one.

The two walked along the street for nearly two-quarters of an hour, and the little beggar pointed to an alley: “It’s right here, the third house on the right.”
