Chapter 29: Assigning tasks

Egg white pancakes, pickle dumplings, and a bowl of rice porridge.

Gu Sanlang was shocked when he saw the dishes on the dining table: “Mother, has our family become rich?”

Mrs. Chen said angrily: “Why do you ask so much? Look at your two brothers, they don’t ask. Just eat what is given to you.”

Gu Sanlang chuckled: “I haven’t eaten white pancakes in half a year.”

“If our family lives like this every day, I won’t bat an eye even if the Emperor asks me.”

Gu Fei chuckled: “Third brother, as long as we all work together, this kind of life won’t be too far away.”

After breakfast, Gu Fei said seriously: “Father, I thought about it. I’m afraid that the second brother and the third brother will have to go with us in the city together.”

Gu Zhang nodded and didn’t ask anything.

Yesterday, he discovered that his daughter had a plan in her mind. Also, in a place like the Marquis Mansion, she might not be able to survive without a plan.

Gu Sanlang was very happy. He liked going to the city. He patted his chest and loudly said: “Sister, if you have something to do, just tell your third brother.”

Gu Fei smiled and said: “Yes, there are many things that need to be done by several brothers.”

Gu Sanlang geared up: “Then let’s go quickly.”

Gu Qing stood up and said: “I’m going to see if the carriage has arrived. I agreed with Boss Zhang yesterday.”

Li Chunhua said quickly: “Sister, let me comb your hair. It’s not good to go into the city with such disheveled hair.”

Li Chunhua’s skillful hands allowed her to comb Gu Fei’s hair into a bun like that of an unmarried girl in a short time. Xiao Cao clapped her hands and laughed: “My Aunt is so beautiful. She is like a little fairy.”

Gu Fei took out a lollipop from the space with a smile and stuffed it into Xiao Cao’s hand, “Eat it quietly at home, don’t let anyone see it.”

Xiao Cao nodded obediently: “I won’t go out, XI will stay at home with mother.”

When the carriage arrived, all the men in the family and Gu Fei got on the carriage.

There were so many people and the space was so small that Gu Fei couldn’t lie down, so she could only kneel on the mat with her butt sticking out.

The carriage quickly left the village entrance. Gu Fei began to assign tasks.

She took out the second young lady’s bag of gold hairpins and pearls and handed them to Gu Sanlang. She lowered her voice and said: “Third Brother, you pawn these things in a pawn shop. It’s best to go to different pawn shops.”

She handed Gu Qing another two hundred taels of silver notes and whispered: “Eldest Brother, go to Nanshi and buy 3 horses. They need to be good horses. If you don’t know how to identify horses, find someone who can go with you. It doesn’t matter to spend some money to pay someone.”

“Aside from the 3 horses, you also buy 3 carriages.”

Gu Fei turned to look at Gu Zhang: “Father, are three carriages enough?”

Gu Zhang was marveling at his daughter’s generosity. When he heard his daughter ask him, he thought for a long time, “Xiao Fei, it’s better to buy a mule than a horse. A mule has better endurance and strength than a horse. A good mule can carry hundreds of kilograms, and they are easier to take care of than horses.”

Gu Fei said in surprise: “Really? I don’t know. Then just buy a mule.”

“For the rest, I think buying some leather and sheepskin would be good.”

“We’ll talk about the rest later.” Gu Fei was afraid that she didn’t have enough money to redeem someone when they went to the Jiaofang House.

Gu Qing was stunned: “Sister, why do you want to buy so many mules and carriage?”

Gu Zhang coughed lightly and said: “If your sister asks you to buy it, just buy it.”

Chapter 28: Good things should be hidden

The night was getting darker, and Gu Fei fell asleep unconsciously while reading a book.

Mrs. Chen has been waiting for Gu Zhang in the main room.

At midnight, Gu Zhang came back home.

“You damn old man, you didn’t tell me where you were!” Mrs. Chen cursed.

Gu Zhang waved his hand: “Let’s talk about it tomorrow. Tomorrow, our daughter, Dalang, and I will go into the city, so let’s rest first.”

The old couple and Gu Fei were lying on the same bed.

As soon as the rooster crows, Mrs. Chen gets up. She has to quickly prepare breakfast for her husband and children to eat before heading into the city.

After entering the kitchen, Li Chunhua was already there.

She was squatting on the ground holding an oil lamp in a daze.

Mrs. Chen followed her gaze and looked over. There were two big bags on the ground. The material of the bags was something she had never seen before. There were writings on them, but Mrs. Chen was illiterate and didn’t know what was written.

She walked over and looked at it doubtfully. Just as she was about to cut it open with a knife, Li Chunhua suddenly shouted: “Mother, be careful, I touched it. It seemed to be grains.”

Grains?

Two big bags of grains?

Mrs. Chen’s eyes brightly shined. She carefully untied the string at the mouth of the bag. When she opened it, she saw that there were white grains inside!

Mrs. Chen and Li Chunhua looked at each other, and both of them were shocked.

They also opened the other bag, which was full of white flour.

Mrs. Chen stretched out her hand and grabbed a handful. It was white and finely grinned.

After a long while, Mrs. Chen said trembling: “Chunhua, you can’t talk to anyone except our family about this matter.”

Li Chunhua nodded vigorously, “Mother, I won’t tell anyone else.”

“You can’t even talk to your maternal family! Remember!”

“I won’t tell, I won’t tell anyone. Don’t worry, Mother, I know the severity.” Li Chunhua grabbed Mrs. Chen’s hand, “Mother, I think this must have been given to us by the fairy when she saw that our family had no food to eat. Don’t you agree?”

Mrs. Chen nodded: “Yes, Xiao Cao said there is a little fairy.”

The two of them knew tacitly that these things, like the fruit last night, they knew it had something to do with Gu Fei.

Mrs. Chen looked around and said, “This has to be hidden.”

Li Chunhua came up with an idea: “Mom, I’m afraid we have to hide in the room. Many people enter this kitchen.”

“Yes, yes, yes, hide this flour in your room, and I’ll hide the rice in our room.”

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law hid the flour and rice, then scooped up a large bowl of flour to make breakfast.

In the kitchen, Li Chunhua whispered again, “Mom, look what is this?”

There was a transparent bag on the chopping board, and the contents inside were all white.

“Is this salt?” Mrs. Chen opened the bag, dipped a little on her finger, and put it in her mouth.

So sweet!

“Chunhua, it’s sugar, try it!”

Li Chunhua also dipped some in it and put it in her mouth. It was really sweet.

“Why is this sugar so white?”

At this time, the sugar consumed by every household was brown sugar. White sugar was already available, but it was expensive, and ordinary people were reluctant to eat it.

Mrs. Chen hesitated for a moment and said: “Bring some eggs and let’s make pancakes in the morning. Also, add some sugar.”

Li Chunhua quickly took the eggs and started kneading the flour.

When Gu Fei got up, there was no one in the room.

She took off her clothes and put on the apricot-yellow and green jacket and skirt her father had bought for her. There was nothing she could do about her hair. It was painful for her to comb it herself.

After changing her clothes, Gu Fei took the toothpaste and toothbrush from the space and went to the kitchen to get water with disheveled her hair.

Now that there was a drought, the water in the wells was almost drying up, and only one or two buckets of turbid muddy water could be fetched a day.

When Li Chunhua saw her coming in, she said hurriedly: “Sister, do you want some water to wash your face? Don’t move, I’ll bring it for you.”

“Thank you, sister-in-law.” Gu Fei smiled sweetly. Especially, when she smelled the scent of the dough.

Chapter 27: My Aunt is a little fairy

Gu Sanlang looked at the two remaining pieces on the table eagerly: “I’ll take one piece for my sister, and leave the remaining piece for Father.”

Mrs. Chen didn’t say anything. Gu Sanlang carefully took a piece and went into the back room.

After entering the room, Gu Sanlang saw his sister holding something in her hand and was about to throw it away. Seeing him come in, Gu Fei smiled and said: “Third brother, help me throw this away.”

Gu Sanlang was stunned: “Throw it away? You don’t want to eat it?”

Gu Fei nodded: “Well, the apples have been eaten, and only the core is left. Isn’t it better to throw it away?”

Gu Sanlang took the apple core from Gu Fei’s hand and rushed out of the room: “You can’t eat the core inside the apple!”

Everyone was looking at him in a daze. Where was the core?

Xiao Cao looked at her third uncle and slowly spit out a seed from her mouth: “Third uncle, are you saying you can’t eat this?”

Gu Sanlng nodded vigorously and showed the apple core in his hand to everyone: “This is how your Aunt eat it!”

“Oh, there’s still some!” Mrs. Chen looked at the apple in Gu Sanlang’s hand eagerly.

Gu Sanlang quickly stuffed the piece he had held in his hand into his mouth and said vaguely: “My sister has already eaten one, this one belongs to me.”

Everyone looked at him angrily.

Xiao Cao said aggrieved: “Third Uncle, you ate two of them by yourself!”

“That’s right! Even if there is some leftover, shouldn’t it be given to Xiao Cao to eat?” Gu Erlang said righteously.

“Hehe, it’s so delicious.” Gu Sanlang smiled and ran away quickly.

Gu Fei didn’t feel it at first, but later she vaguely heard the words in the main room.

She found it both sad and funny.

According to history, it will take hundreds of years more before apples are introduced into the country, so they naturally didn’t know about it.

They cut the apple into eight segments, it was quite pitiful.

Gu Fei looked inside the space and saw that there was only a pitiful amount of fruits. Half a box of apples, half a box of pears, a few bunches of grapes, a watermelon, and only a few cherries left.

She collected these fruits in the supermarket when the zombies first broke out.

These things were impossible to find after the zombie outbreak. She usually couldn’t bear to eat them, but she was greedy, so she took some out to eat.

It has been several years. Fortunately, the space has its preservation function. Things will look the same when she takes them out.

Gu Fei thought for a while, took out a bunch of grapes, and shouted: “Mother——”

Mrs. Chen quickly opened the door and came in, “What’s wrong? Do you want some water?”

Gu Fei shook her head and pointed to the basket placed on Kang, “Mom, wash this and give it to everyone.”

Ms. Chen stared at the grapes and asked, “Is this—grapes?”

Gu Fei nodded: “Absolutely.”

Mrs. Chen looked at Gu Fei and hesitated to speak. First, it was apples, and now it was grapes. Where did these things come from?

Her daughter was wearing a single clothes when she came back!

Mrs. Chen’s mouth moved, but she didn’t say anything. She took the bag and went out.

After a while, Mrs. Chen washed the grapes and brought a small plate to Gu Fei before calling the family to eat.

Gu Sanlng came back when he heard the sound, and then saw the grapes on the table: “Where did it come from?”

Mrs. Chen patted him and said: “You just eat when it’s given to you. Why do you ask so many questions?”

Xiao Cao bit one in her hand and said vaguely: “I know, my aunt gave it to us. Aunt is a little fairy, so she has a lot of delicious food.”

Mrs. Chen laughed and said, “Xiao Cao is right, our Xiao Fei is a little fairy.”

“Well, these grapes are not sour at all.”

Chapter 26: Cut an apple into eight segments

Gu Zhang nodded: “That’s not all. Since I know there is a disaster, I will try my best to let the villagers leave together.”

He looked at the history textbook in his hand and asked: “Can you give this book to me?”

Gu Fei nodded, then shook her head: “I can’t give them all to you, I can only take this page.”

She guessed that her father wanted to use this book to make a fuss about it and persuade their relatives to leave together.

Gu Fei tore off the pages of the book without hesitation and handed it to Gu Zhang.

Gu Zhang looked at the cover of the book. There were two big characters called “history”. He didn’t recognize the first character, but he recognized the character “history”.

This was the history of the past recorded by later generations.

He wanted to see what else was written at the end.

Gu Fei noticed her father’s desire and whispered: “Father, I will show you this book later.”

Gu Zhang nodded, and stood up with the page in hand: “I’ll go find the village chief.”

He walked to the gate and met Mrs. Chen, who was walking in. Gu Zhang thought for a while and suddenly took out the apple that Gu Fei gave him from his sleeve and said: “Our daughter gave it to you, you can eat it.”

Mrs. Chen took it and looked at it: “What is this?”

Gu Zhang shook his head, “I don’t know, it’s food. I saw our daughter eats it very well.”

Mrs. Chen put it to her nose and smelled it, with a smile on her face: “It’s fragrant. It smells good even when you smell it.”

“Are you going to eat this thing just like this, or——” Before she could finish her words, Gu Zhang had already left the courtyard.

“What a damn old man, he doesn’t know to speak well.” Mrs. Chen walked in happily and waved to Xiao Cao: “Come here, there is delicious food here.”

Mrs. Chen dazzled the apple in front of Xiao Cao’s eyes. When Xiao Cao suddenly saw something novel, she grabbed Mrs. Chen’s pants and became excited: “Grandma, give it to me, give it to me.”

Mrs. Chen thought that this was a valuable thing and everyone had to try it.

Well, she better ask her daughter first. Didn’t that old man say that she gave it to her? It must be good food for the nobles in the Marquis’ mansion.

Mrs. Chen pushed the door open with Xiao Cao on her legs and saw Gu Fei lying on the kang, reading a book and gnawing on an apple.

She blinked, and it seemed that there was no need to ask. This thing should be eaten raw.

Mrs. Chen walked to the main room and shouted: “Dalang, Erlang, Sanlang, Chunhua——”

Gu Fei was so frightened by the sound in the room that her hands shook, and she almost dropped the apple.

The whole family heard the sound and came over.

“Mom, what’s the matter?”

The three young men rushed to the main room to look at Mrs. Chen.

Li Chunhua also came over soon.

Mrs. Chen took out the apple from her sleeve mysteriously: “This is a good thing your sister gave me, I want everyone to try them.”

“What is this?”

“What’s that?”

Several people asked in unison.

Mrs. Chen waved her hand: “I don’t know, don’t ask me.”

“How do you eat it?” Li Chunhua asked the most critical question.

Mrs. Chen walked to the kitchen, picked up a kitchen knife, washed it carefully, then put the apple on the table and cut it carefully.

She cut it in half and then in half. Mrs. Chen cut the apple into eight pieces: “One piece for each person!”

Gu Sanlang quickly picked up a piece and threw it into his mouth, chewed it twice, and then it was gone.

Everyone in the room looked at him, and Gu Erlang asked: “Is it delicious?”

Gu Sanlang smacked his mouth and nodded: “It’s delicious, but it’s just too little. I didn’t taste much!”

Mrs. Chen glared at him: “Who told you to eat so fast? You have to eat it slowly, like ginseng fruit!”

Gu Qing carefully picked up a piece and handed it to Xiao Cao first.

Xiao Cao took a bite and her eyes shined brightly: “Wow, it’s delicious.”

The remaining people quickly picked up their pieces and put them into their mouths to taste.

“It’s tasty.”

“It tastes delicious.”

Gu Sanlang looked at them and his saliva flowed out.

Chapter 25: Let me show you the history textbook

Gu Zhang became excited: “That’s good, that’s good. I’m just worried about how our family will live in the future without money.”

After saying those words, he frowned again: “I said I would support you but doesn’t this mean you are raising our family?”

Gu Fei waved her hand, took out another apple, and handed it to Gu Zhang: “Father, don’t worry about these useless things. We are family, whoever raises who are the same.”

“Also, that’s not what I want to say. We must leave the north and go to the south quickly.”

Gu Zhang took the apple and put it in his sleeve: “Why, isn’t there food? We don’t have to flee the famine.”

Gu Fei shook her head: “Wait a minute.”

She closed her eyes and let her consciousness sink into space, and then she began to rummage through her personal belongings.

She remembered that on the day her space powers awakened, she excitedly put everything in the house she rented into it.

Gu Fei searched for a long time and finally found what she wanted, a history textbook for the sophomore year of high school!

Fortunately, she grew up in poverty, so she was reluctant to throw away anything.

Nothing was as convincing as this.

Gu Zhang stared blankly at his daughter, whose eyes were closed. She looked like she had lost all consciousness. He was worried, but then he saw his daughter suddenly open her eyes and there was a book in her hand.

Gu Fei turned to the section about the drought in the Daying Dynasty and asked Gu Zhang to read it for himself.

Gu Zhang frowned. He was not used to the characters in this book being arranged horizontally, and why these characters felt like they were missing arms and legs? He had to guess one by one.

Gu Zhang stumbled through the chapter that Gu Fei asked him to read, and he roughly understood the meaning. His expression was extremely serious: “You mean, what is written in this book is what will happen next?”

Gu Fei nodded.

“There will be no harvest, nine out of ten households will be empty, people will die from hunger everywhere, and the plague will be rampant?”

Gu Fei nodded again.

Gu Zhang clutched the history textbook tightly: “If this is true, we have to leave.”

“Then, where are we going?”

Speaking of this, Gu Fei gets worried. There will be drought in the north and floods in the south. It rains unevenly. And there were not many good places in this world.

Gu Fei thought for a while: “We’d better go to Donghai County.”

“The flood over there is not so serious, and it’s also close to the sea.”

Gu Zhang sighed: “I’ve heard of Donghai County, but I’ve never been there, and I don’t know the way there.”

Gu Fei nodded: “This is a serious problem, we need to get a map.”

Modern maps are available in history books, but they may not be accurate.

After all, after thousands of years, the topography has changed, and river flooding often causes rivers to change their course.

Gu Zhang’s expression changed: “Only the government has the map, ordinary people cannot hide it privately.”

Gu Fei put a finger to her lips: “Then let’s keep quiet about it. Let no one know about it.”

Gu Zhang looked at Gu Fei with a complicated expression and sighed, “My daughter has grown up.”

Gu Fei shook her head and proudly said: “That’s natural. I have been fighting monsters in my dreams for several years.”

As she talked, she felt that her past life experience might have been a dream.

online is never certain whether what one sees is reality or illusion. Who knows what was going on?

Gu Zhang looked at his daughter with both heartache and pride.

He nodded, “Okay, then we’ll leave.”

“It’s not enough for us to leave, we have to call your uncles and also your aunt. It’s best to leave together. Right, bring also your maternal uncle.”

Gu Fei suddenly felt her head pounded in pain: “So many people are leaving together?”

Chapter 24: Let me tell you a story

Mrs. Chen was anxious, “Then why don’t you buy more today?”

“The amount of food you bought today is just enough to last for 10 to 15 days!”

Gu Qing said nothing.

Mrs. Chen soon realized that she had said the wrong thing. If her son didn’t buy more, it naturally meant he had no money. What else could be the reason?

Xiao Cao suddenly said: “Grandmother, don’t worry, I will eat less in the future.”

Mrs. Chen looked at Xiao Cao with a little moist eyes: “This child is sensible.”

Gu Fei reached out and touched Xiao Cao’s head, “You don’t have to eat less, Xiaocao. Aunt will give Xiao Cao a lot of delicious food in the future. Then won’t you be white and fat by then?”

Everyone thought that Gu Fei was just coaxing the child, and no one thought that she was serious.

After dinner, Mrs. Chen and Li Chunhua were clearing away the dishes. Gu Fei thought for a while, she couldn’t go on like this. She couldn’t just guard a treasure mountain and let her family eat chaff vegetables. Wouldn’t that be stupid?

There was also the matter of leaving the North. She needs to tell this to her father quickly. This was not a simple trip that they could just leave whenever they wanted to. If they decide to leave, they still have to make a lot of preparations.

Gu Erlang helped Gu Fei stand up, but then Gu Fei stopped Gu Zhang: “Father, come with me to the room. I have something to tell you.”

Gu Erlang helped Gu Fei lie down on the Kang and walked out silently. Gu Zhang closed the door and sat beside the kang.

Gu Fei thought for a moment before speaking: “Father, that pot of chicken at noon today——”

Hearing this, Gu Zhang looked at Gu Fei deeply and said, “Don’t worry, Xiao Fei, Father won’t mention anything.”

No, Father, I want you to mention it! Why don’t you ask about it?

Gu Fei looked at her father with resentment and had to say, “Actually, at noon, it’s not a cover-up.”

Gu Zhang nodded: “Father sees it.”

“Father, why don’t you ask me what’s going on?” Gu Fei tilted her head.

Gu Zhang shook his head: “No, I won’t ask. Is there anyone in this world who doesn’t have secrets?”

Gu Fei glared at her father, “You are so uncooperative. How can I go on?”

Gu Fei puffed up her cheeks and said: “I have to tell you.”

Gu Zhang nodded with a smile, “Then I’ll listen.”

Gu Fei rolled her eyes and started telling a story.

“Father I’ve had some strange adventures over the years.”

“When I was in the Marquis Mansion, I was sick for several days. I felt like I was in another world.”

Gu Zhang’s focus was very strange: “When did you get sick? Why didn’t you tell us about it to us?”

Gu Fei waved her hand, “Father, don’t interrupt me, let’s get down to business.”

I beg you, can you focus on the main point?

“That world is very different from us. I won’t go into details. Even if I do, you won’t understand.”

“In that world, it seemed like many years had passed, and I also gained a magical ability.”

Gu Zhang’s expression gradually became serious: “What ability?”

An apple suddenly appeared in Gu Fei’s hand. She took a bite and said, “I have a space where I can put many things. This space exists in my mind. As long as I think about it, I can take things out and put them in.”

“Of course, the distance must not be too far.” Gu Fei waved her hand: “But it’s not important.”

Gu Zhang suddenly realized: “You took in the chicken soup earlier?”

Gu Fei nodded, and she moved closer to Gu Zhang, “Father, I still have some food from that world in my dimension. We don’t need to be afraid of running out of food for the time being.”

She looked at it before and found that it had rice, flour, cooking oil, and so on.

Gu Zhang’s eyes widened, and an expression of ecstasy gradually appeared on his face: “Do we have food?”

Gu Fei nodded vigorously.
