Chapter 66: Wu Guotong (Part 6)

Lin Qingyin’s grandma lives in Quan Village, Yuanlong County, which was the most remote county in Qi City. Mother Lin called her brothers and sisters ahead of time and asked everyone to go home and get together.

Speaking of it, the last time the family got together was the Ching Ming Festival. They haven’t seen each other for half a year, so everyone in the family was a little excited. Lin Qingyin’s grandmother, Zheng, bought a few fish caught from the reservoir and kept them in a large pot, and let Lin Qingyin’s uncle, Zheng Guangkai kill chickens and geese.

Grandmother Zheng walked around the room over and over again with her hands behind her back. Every time she made a lap, she will raise her head and asked: “What time is it? Why haven’t they come?”

“It won’t be that fast!” Aunt Zheng said with a smile: “It will take them 2 hours to travel by bus to the county. Then take another bus from the county to the village, so they won’t get here so soon.”

“What’s so good about living too far away from here? It’s also not easy for us to go to your sister’s home. People say it would be nice to marry a man from the city. I think it would be better to stay in our county. At least I can help her cook for Qingyin. You see, she feeds her daughter like some kind of refugee in Africa.”

Aunt Zheng sighed silently when she remembered the situation of her sister’s house, but she still had to comfort Grandmother Zheng: “Their life is hard now, but it will be fine after Qingyin graduates from the University. Qingyin is very smart. She will have a good life in the future.”

“That’s right.” Old Lady Zheng nodded her head happily, but she still refused to go back inside the house. She put on a cotton-padded jacket: “I’m uncomfortable in the house. I’ll go out to meet you.”

“Hey, it’s still early…” Before Aunt Zheng finished speaking, she saw that the old lady had already left the gate.

Just after Lin Xu drove into the village, he saw Grandmother Zheng walking towards the entrance of the village like a wind. Lin Xu quickly stopped the car, opened the window, and called, “Mom!”

When Grandmother Zheng heard the sound a bit familiar, she turned her head and was stunned to see the van behind him. Mother Lin quickly opened the door and pulled Lin Qingyin out of the car: “Mom, why did you come out on such a cold day!”

Only then did Grandmother Zheng came back to her senses. It turned out that it was her daughter and son-in-law who drove back. It was only half a year since the last time they met, so why their life now was so good? However, these problems were immediately thrown behind by the old lady after seeing Lin Qingyin. She stepped forward to grab Lin Qingyin’s hand and said, “Oh my, Qingyin has grown taller and looks much better. Let grandma take a closer look at you.”

At this time, five or six people came out of a house next to them. Hearing what Grandmother Zheng said, they looked over at the same time. After seeing Lin Qingyin, they rushed over in surprise: “Little Master!”

Lin Qingyin turned her head and saw that the person who ran in front of her was Bai Boan, who urinated on a grave and hit his head.

“Little Master, I took a bath for a month just like what you instructed, and now my body is much better.” Bai Boan excitedly walked over: “Little Master, can you please help me see if the yin and yang in my body are now balanced?”

Bai Bowen’s aunt, Bai Juan, also rushed over and held Lin Qingyin’s hands tightly and didn’t let go: “Little Master, you are too great. After you arranged the formation, the sun come out for a month. The weather forecast said that it will rain for a week, but it didn’t. They are still not accurate as before!”

Bai Boan’s parents also squeezed in: “Little Master, our couple also went to the hospital to see a doctor according to what you said. Fortunately, it is not a big problem. After the medical insurance reimburse our bills, we didn’t spend much money, and now also recovered! It all thanks to your advice, otherwise, we two won’t dare to go to the hospital and see a doctor!”

When the family finished twittering, they found out that the little master’s expression was unhappy.

Bai Boan stepped back two steps uncomfortably, then smiled and said: “Little Master, why don’t you busy yourself first. We will visit you later!”

Seeing the Bai family all running away, Lin Qingyin squeezed a pitiful smile at her mother: “Mom, I didn’t say anything. You can’t blame me for being scolded!”

  1. Lol, last part, “I promise not to talk about fortune telling…” this part, “Technically, *I* didn’t talk about it…”

  2. I bet someone in her family has some problems with Feng Shui too. Still, this story is getting too wild. Went from her being the only one to still remember how to cultivate to almost every single problem she meets actually has a mystic force behind it. And all these “masters” popping up somehow always use their power for harm, instead of earning honest money, and somehow always ended up defeated too.

        1. Well, the one I know of is, **The Real Miss is a Genius Taoist Master**. This is less about fortune telling and more about solving issues related to ghosts. I read the machine translated version but someone has just started to translate it (check novelupdates)

    1. The “masters” didn’t use “mystic forces” (xuan, xian, or qi spiritual power) to change their client’s fate. They used evil formation and talismans (with blood and eight characters as the carrier of the curse) which didn’t even involve “mystic force” in it. It only “tweaked” on the balance of yin and yang which brought misfortune and evil force to the victims while bringing “benefits” to their clients.

If you read enough Eastern Fantasy genre, you will know that “mystic force” (in xuan cultivation technique), “spiritual force” (in immortal/xian cultivation), “magical/demonic force” (in demonic cultivation) can be learned (absorbed and used) just by the cultivators (with cultivation technique). But, the knowledge of Yin and Yang is part of Taoism which can be used/learned by all, even by mortal.

In several recent cases, the yin and/or evil force brought by the formation/talismans were too heavy/powerful and it has reached an “energy balance” that it’s hard to be solved simply by the law of yin and yang. So, those “masters” thought theirs was the most powerful technique. Which in fact, it’s indeed so amongst mortal techniques. But, it’s just petty tricks in front of cultivation technique. The cultivators can use small amount of their force/qi to disturb the “energy balance”, making a new “energy balance” in which the excess yin and/or evil force was destroyed.

So, no. The taoism–the root of cultivation technique–is still there and applicated for feng shui, fortune telling, formations, etc. But, the cultivation technique itself has been lost.

    2. It’s because these things are relatively easy to do. You don’t even need to cultivate or something, it’s like adding 2 to 2 will get a 4.

  3. That “she feed her daughter like some refugee from Africa” was wild 😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 grandma was 🔥🔥🔥
