I’ve seen every way to plot the demise of so called “family members” but I’ve never seen someone propose to separate the family first! Nice too see some good characters get some backbone!

I appreciate your effort in translation, but why are you insisting on using Chinese words that can easily be translated (ie, Niang/mother). I hope this story is not going to be another Chinese Lesson disguised as a translation like certain other translators like to do, filled with muhou/benwang/wangfei etc.
To appreciate and get familiar with very common Chinese words? I mean why not? People like using the words: sensei, oni-chan, otou sama, oppa, ajhussi, etc.
When I started translating this novel (2017), there were very few Chinese translated novels, I mean only like thousands, unlike today, there were hundred thousands or more. I find it cute and informative to do this, so… … it happened ^.^
I guess the issue is, that people do not stick to one or two easy to digest words. They try to stick an entire Chinese lesson in. For example, the translator “Dreams of Jianghu”, in the first chapter of one of their novels had nearly 30 notations for various Chinese words they decided to keep. Then new words would keep being added in further chapters. A reader is NOT going to remember what all these words mean (and keeping them in does absolutely nothing in changing the story vs not keeping them in). And having a glossary where you have to keep looking things up is a terrible idea that breaks immersion. Even Fantasy novels with entire fictional languages pepper less unfamiliar words in them.
I have no idea what oni-chan or otou sama mean, sensei has made enough appearances in American media to be considered a Japanese loan-word in English by now. And the only people who know oppa & ajhussi are those who watch a lot of Korean dramas of which the English subtitles do NOT actually use either word (usually it is character name or brother for Oppa; and old man or Mister for Ajhussi)
BUT I have to admit, unlike the aforementioned CNovel translators, “Dreams of Jianghu” (or “Volarenovels”), what you did by keeping it to just a few words was perfectly fine. My original post was just a mix of fear and frustration that you were heading down the route that DoJ & VN follow. Keeping it to 5 or less words is very digestible and is easy to remember without resorting to a glossary (though, I will always dislike the use of Benwang & Wang Fei).
