Chapter 123: The Ghost of Happiness and Mourning (Part 1)

The so-called ‘red and white evil spirits collide’ was a forbidden technique of Maoshan.

The person or ghost who can perform this method has extraordinary Taoism and ability.

Among them, “white evil spirits” refer to the funeral procession of water ghosts.

Most water ghosts who drowned in the water cannot be called “evil spirits”.

Only the funeral procession formed by water ghosts with higher Taoism can be called “white evil spirits”.

Generally speaking, the places where water ghosts exist are in the rivers, lakes, and ponds, especially the places where they drowned before their death.

Once ‘white evil spirits’ were formed, these water ghosts could gather energy and turn it into water. Wherever they go, there will be drizzles, just like swimming on land, and they can still maintain their abilities.

What’s more, some have been able to refine ghost weapons. The general shape of ghost weapons was similar to rain hats and raincoats for sheltering from rain. “White evil spirits” water ghosts can store lake water in ghost weapons and can also walk on land.

As for the ‘red evil spirit’, it refers to the bride who died unexpectedly on the wedding day. Especially in the ancient wedding banquets, the bride often covered herself with red clothes and red covers, and the whole room was filled with red candles and window paper, and the audience played music and beat gongs and drums.

This was a happy and solemn moment for young women who were married on behalf of others. They were full of expectations to start a new chapter in their lives, but they died unexpectedly on the spot the next moment.

Because they died on such a happy day as a wedding, and died unexpectedly the ‘red evil spirit’ was also called the ‘ghost of a happy funeral’;

It has a heavy resentment and is extremely fierce when it encounters.

It was more dangerous out of the two evil spirits.

When the two evil spirits meet, the one who needs to avoid or take the initiative to avoid is the ‘white evil spirit’.

In addition, although the two ‘evil spirits’ were both transformed from ghosts who died unjustly in their lifetime, their formation methods were also very different.

The former water ghosts were mostly drowned accidentally or murdered.

But the latter ‘ghost of a happy funeral’, in addition to the sudden disaster from heaven and death by nature, has a cruel method that is even more vicious and can artificially create ‘red evil’.

According to the Maoshan Sutra, in ancient times, some mystic masters often advised emperors, generals, or dignitaries to seek gold, silver, and treasures;

They bought Feng Shui ornaments for them during their lifetime and built tombs for them after their death. The most secretive line among them was ‘tomb-guarding magic’.

To satisfy the wishes of these generals and ministers to guard the tombs and prevent tomb robbers from digging out the burial objects and destroying the bodies, setting up various large arrays of organs and glazed fire sealing layers is only a milder form of ‘tomb-guarding magic’.

A more insidious trick was to use ‘evil spirits’ to suppress the tomb.

‘Ghost of a happy funeral’ was the most vicious ‘evil’ ghost recorded in the Maoshan Sutra, used to guard the tombs of people with prominent backgrounds.

The mystic master who was preparing to perform the ritual will select a commoner family nearby in advance. The first criterion for selection was that the family had a daughter of similar age who was waiting to be married and was looking for a partner.

Secondly, the girl must be of good character and appearance and must have a good relationship with the person she was looking for and have a similar family background…

After all the conditions are met, the young girl will be full of expectations and wait to marry into her husband’s family.

In the old days, when getting married, the daughters who were getting married had to learn needlework and handicrafts. The girls who were waiting to be married from ordinary families would start sewing their wedding clothes for themselves a few months to half a year in advance.

In every stitch, they expressed their expectations and shyness about marriage.

And this expectation and shyness would reach its peak on the day of their wedding.

From the gaps in the shadowy curtains of the sedan chair, they could see the noisy team outside welcoming the bride, and hear the drums and music team next to them, and the husband riding a tall horse to bring her into the new family. Everything was so beautiful…

And all this was already part of the mystic master’s plan.

On this day, various “accidents” that were arranged in advance will appear one after another.

Some more straightforward people will find a strong man to rush into the wedding procession and directly break into the wedding sedan chair, holding a sharp knife and stabbing the terrified young woman. Every stab was fatal, and blood splashed in the sedan chair and soaked the wedding dress.

However, such simple and crude methods may fail. To be foolproof, some more ruthless and murderous sorcerers will directly make tricks and set up killing formations on the way to the wedding.

When they reach the formation position, the entire wedding procession, including a team of newlyweds, may be smashed to pieces by the suddenly collapsed ground and the collapsed stone pillars on both sides.

The wedding banquet venue becomes a hell on earth.

The red evil spirits that suddenly turn from great joy to great sorrow and turn into “happy funeral ghosts” were often too resentful and could not be reborn outside the six paths. After being caught by the mystic master in the tomb and suppressed by the formation, they would be even more resentful.

As long as tomb robbers break into this tomb unless they were great mystic masters, no one can survive.

Because this technique was too insidious, it was listed as an evil technique by Maoshan, and it was forbidden to use.

As for the ‘red and white evil spirits collision’, it was to set up a formation to make two evil spirits appear at the same time, which was a great omen, so it was listed as a forbidden technique that cannot be touched.

At this time, the evil formation that Gu Zhisang and Yan Cheng encountered was like this.

As the sound of mourning and joy rang out in unison and the sound got closer and closer, they could feel that the surrounding air was getting colder and colder and began to be filled with wet and sticky water vapor.

From the sad singing, the gauze on one side of the lacquered red sedan was blown away, revealing the ‘happy funeral ghost’ sitting inside with a sad expression.

It was wearing a phoenix crown and a bridal robe, without a veil, and a face as white as snow. Two lines of blood and tears flowed out of the dark eye sockets, with a resentful and gloomy breath that made people shudder.

The ghosts carrying the sedan chair and playing drums on both sides had either their heads shrunken or half of their faces bloody. They were singing with a smile, but the lyrics were very dark.

After listening to two sentences, Gu Zhisang probably understood.

These “red evil spirit” ghosts were singing about their experiences before death.

They were on their way to send off the bride happily, but they met with trouble when they passed an arch bridge.

The bridge was broken in the middle and collapsed directly throwing the bride and the others to the bottom of the bridge.

The constantly falling boulders and broken bricks smashed their bodies to pieces, and even the people and children who were watching the show on the bridge were buried under the broken bridge.

The scene was covered in red, with broken limbs and flesh everywhere.

Seeing the two waves of ghosts approaching, Yan Cheng regretted why he had never learned any skills to save himself because he resisted the people of the Taoist Sects and these mystic powers.

Now that he is in great trouble, he needs Gu Zhisang to protect him.

Yan Cheng asked: “Where should we run?”

Gu Zhisang held the peach wood sword horizontally, level with her neck, with the blade of the sword facing the approaching red sedan chair.

Hearing this, she shook her head and said: “It’s useless. This is a vicious formation set up against you and me. We are at the collision point of the red and white evil spirits. They have already targeted us. We can’t escape. We can only break the formation.”

Although the water ghost ‘White Evil’ can land for a short time, it can’t go to the underworld to reincarnate due to the restraints and evil obstacles on its body.
