From the moment Gu Zhisang noticed the anomaly in the surveillance footage, learning that the deceased roommate who fell to his death might have entered their bedroom before his death and that the cause of the incident might also lie within their bedroom—the faces of the two female college students turned pale.
They didn’t dare to obstruct and followed Officer Zhao into their room.
After a while, Xiao Gao hesitantly asked: “Master Gu, is there something wrong with our room?”
“Yes,” Gu Zhisang replied with certainty.
The moment the door opened, she was sure that this room was the source of the abnormality.
In her vision, thick clusters of ominous energy had condensed into a mist-like form, almost enveloping the entire room, much denser than outside.
Officer Zhao looked around and couldn’t help but frown.
“There’s a faint strange smell in this room. Do you smell it?”
The police officers behind him sniffed hard, some looking confused and saying: “No.”
Only one person said: “When we first entered, there seemed to be a slight smell, but when I tried to smell it again, it was gone.”
As for the female roommates, they all said that the room only had the scent of air freshener.
Hearing Gu Zhisang and Officer Zhao’s words, Xiao Gao and Xiao He grew even more uneasy.
“Stop,” Gu Zhisang suddenly spoke, calling out to Yuan Chufang, who was silently filming with the live broadcast equipment behind everyone: “Take two steps back toward the door.”
Yuan Chufang was startled, realizing that Gu Zhisang was talking to her, and stepped back.
After taking three steps back, just as she was about to step out of the master bedroom door, Gu Zhisang called for her to stop.
“The room on your left, open the door and go in.”
Officer Zhao, realizing that she had discovered something, immediately turned back, grabbed the door handle, and pushed the door open.
After turning on the light, he said: “Miss Gu, this is a bathroom.”
The XX Garden community sold fully furnished, high-end commercial housing. The master bedroom, typically used by the homeowners, had a built-in bathroom designed in a hotel style, with a separate wet and dry area and a large interior space.
The sink was outside, while inside were a shower and a bathtub.
From the tiles on the walls and floor to the decorations on the shelves, it was clear that even the bathroom had been expensively decorated.
Just as Officer Zhao and several officers were about to inspect the bathroom and the shower area again, Gu Zhisang stopped them.
There was no need to waste effort.
She had already found the source of the ominous energy.
The lingering attachment of the deceased behind Yuan Chufang had already been affected, detaching from her and attaching itself to a certain spot, continuously colliding against it.
That spot was the source from which the black energy was continuously leaking.
Gu Zhisang’s eyes were as calm as an ancient well when she said: “Miss Sun, at this point, don’t you have anything to explain?”
Everyone turned their heads and realized that the female landlord, Sun Yueyue, who was being held by the plainclothes officers, had turned pale at some point, her expression even showing signs of panic.
She glanced in the direction of Yuan Chufang’s phone, her lips moving, but she ultimately said nothing.
Gu Zhisang sneered: “Officer Zhao, please smash the mirror.”
The most feared and unwanted thing had finally happened.
Sun Yueyue realized that Gu Zhisang wasn’t just suspicious or probing—she had truly discovered the secret hidden in their home.
The panic of having a long-buried secret exposed made her struggle violently, trying to stop Officer Zhao.
“No! You can’t touch my mirror!”
“I’m the owner of this house, and all the decorations and appliances are my property. You have no right to destroy my private belongings without my permission! I have the right to ask you to leave!”
Her struggle was so intense that she broke free from two officers and grabbed Officer Zhao’s sleeve, refusing to let go.
It took some effort for Officer Zhao to free himself, his clothes wrinkled and disheveled.
The bathroom mirror was large.
It extended from the countertop to both sides, at least two meters long and over a meter wide.
Sun Yueyue seemed to have considered the ultimate use of the mirror during the renovation, installing a circle of warm, low-brightness lights above the slightly protruding wall edge and on both sides of the mirror to provide lighting.
After asking the roommates for a toolbox, Officer Zhao picked up a hammer and approached the mirror.
Seeing his reflection, he was surprised.
The reflection in the mirror made him look more handsome, with the lighting filling in the wrinkles and uneven textures on his face as if it had been airbrushed.
He estimated that this large mirror must have been quite expensive.
After a moment of hesitation, Officer Zhao raised the hammer and struck the mirror.
*Crack*—the mirror surface caved in, spiderweb-like cracks spreading out from the point of impact.
Small shards of glass fell onto the sink.
Officer Zhao struck a few more times, and several pieces of the mirror fell off, revealing the white wall behind.
Just as he was about to say that there was no change or discovery, he suddenly smelled something.
It was like something old that had been rotting for years, a very unpleasant odor.
He had caught a faint whiff of it when he first entered the bathroom, but it had been masked by the air freshener.
Tracing the source, Officer Zhao realized that the faint, almost imperceptible smell in the bedroom outside had been spreading from the bathroom.
Now he realized he was wrong.
The strong musty smell seemed to be seeping out from the cracks in the mirror!
Realizing this, Officer Zhao coughed lightly, held his breath, and began chiseling along the cracks toward the edges.
After a few strikes, at a spot almost level with his hairline, the hammer suddenly caved in, and a piece of the mirror fell off.
A dark hole appeared behind the broken mirror.
Visible dust, along with a suddenly pungent, strange smell, wafted out from the hole.
Seeing this, the roommates’ hearts tightened.
Xiao He exclaimed: “The back of the mirror is hollow!!”
Officer Zhao quickened his movements, striking harder, and within a few hits, he had broken off the upper part of the mirror, fully revealing what was inside.
He looked closely at the contents of the hole, and because he was so close, almost face-to-face with it. He was startled and took a step back, his hand pressing against the sink, where a sharp shard of glass pierced his palm.
“This… this?!”
“Ah!!” Screams erupted uncontrollably from the terrified young girls.
Behind the large mirror was something unexpected.
Most of the wall behind it was solid.
