Chapter 86: Hidden Hero (Part 2)

If she tells about it, she will be scolded by her family and neighbors. She will become a murderer and have to pay money and go to jail.

Due to all kinds of hesitation and panic, she didn’t speak out about what happened and chose to hide it.

After returning home, Yao Mingfang had a high fever and was sent to the hospital, where she was given fluids and fell asleep for a day.

All her dreams were filled with the painful and desperate look in her sister’s eyes when she finally looked at her.

After waking up, Yao Mingfang heard her parents chatting next to the hospital bed, saying that something happened at the Goddess Lake yesterday. A female student drowned in the lake. When her body was found, it was swollen and floating on the lake.

Mother Yang peeled the apple and said with regret: “What a pitiful girl. I heard that she was a top student who was admitted to a university in another province. She went there to practice swimming, but the rented swimming ring leaked…”

‘You better not force Fangfang to learn to swim in the future. How scary it is. If she’s afraid of water, don’t encourage her! ’

Father Yao looked at the newspaper and whispered: ‘You don’t know the inside story. It is said that the drowned woman had several black handprints on her legs and ankles! There are rumors outside that she was captured by a water ghost as a substitute! ’

Yao Mingfang, who was secretly listening in the bedroom, had her eyes wide open and could not stop trembling.

In those days, she had been thinking about what to do if she was caught by the police and went to jail……

However, because there were no witnesses to see the female student rescuing people that day, and she did rent a swimming ring on the shore, the police officers fished out the shriveled swimming ring along with the body. It was identified that it was indeed natural damage and air leakage.

Since the rental styles were all the same, no one thought that this swimming ring was not for girls at all.

Nor, she had given it to someone else before.

No one thought that this incident would be related to a little girl.

After learning that the case was classified as drowning, Yao Mingfang, who was already hesitant, seemed to have more reasons to escape.

In the end, she chose to conceal and remain silent, keeping the matter in her heart.

From then on, she never dared to go to the Goddess Lake, let alone go swimming.

The rapid passage of time gradually relieved Yao Mingfang’s inner guilt and uneasiness.

She had her own life and family and had long forgotten what happened in her childhood.

Until three months ago.

Yao Mingfang curled up and hugged her arms, her voice trembling: “That night I closed the store and went home, washed up, and went to bed. In a daze, I felt that the top of my chest was particularly heavy as if I was being pressed by something. I can’t breathe, and my clothes and body are soaked with cold and sticky water…”

She looked pained as she recalled what happened that night.

At first, Yao Mingfang thought she was having a nightmare, but when she had difficulty breathing, she suddenly woke up from her dream and found that she was covered in cold sweat as if she had been fished out of water, and her body was shaking uncontrollably.

“It’s very cold in the house. I wanted to use my mobile phone to call my family, but, but…”

Yao Mingfang shuddered: “When I turned my head and saw a blurry shadow standing beside the bed. Its hair was wet and dripping with water, and it fell on the edge of my pillow! I, I can’t move my fingers, and I can’t close my eyelids…”

Seeing that Yao Mingfang was about to collapse from the shock of her memories, Gu Zhisang stood up and walked to her side and said: “Don’t resist me.”

Through the resonance of power, Gu Zhisang recalled Yao Mingfang’s memory and ‘saw’ the vague ghostly shadow of that night.

Everything was as she said, she was “pressed down by ghosts” and couldn’t move at all.

She could only open her eyes wide in horror, watching the shadow get closer and closer to her face, and finally saw a slightly familiar face in the distorted and blurry fog.

The female ghost’s face was swollen, and her hair was wet and grabbing on Yao Mingfang’s neck. It felt extremely real to the touch.

‘Why didn’t you save me?’

‘Why didn’t you tell everyone the truth?!’

Yao Mingfang sobbed and burst into tears.

She finally remembered why the female ghost’s outfit looked familiar. Wasn’t this the elder sister who saved her when she was a child, but was caught by the water ghost and drowned as a substitute?!

Just when she thought she was going to suffocate to death, the door was opened from the outside and her boyfriend came back.

Her boyfriend was also frightened after turning on the light, but he was just frightened by Yao Mingfang.

She stood upright and twitched like a beached fish, the sheets under her body were soaked with water, her face and head were wet, and she couldn’t tell whether it was sweat or tears.

Such horrific scenes occurred several times in three months, and Yao Mingfang was scared out of her wits.

She began to be afraid of the night and unwilling to sleep, for fear that she would be killed by an innocent ghost.

Later, when her father was fishing for fish and shrimp in the center of the lake, he tripped over the rope and fell directly into the water.

Although he climbed back up immediately with the help of his friends, in Yao Mingfang’s opinion, it was also the female ghost who was causing trouble.

Just when she was about to collapse, she saw a specious post on a local forum. In it, a poster said that he had encountered strange things about the ‘Goddess Lake’. She looked at it and thought it was very similar to her situation, so she sent a private message to the poster.

Unexpectedly, they were not the only ones in the same situation. Several people came over one after another, and they formed a small group.

Yao Mingfang whispered:

“We all know in our hearts that everyone has some regrets related to the Goddess Lake. Every day, people in the group ask what to do, saying that they need to find a master to collect all the dirty things in the lake… A few days ago, a child drowned in the lake, and the body could not be found. The group leader heard that the master wanted to perform a ritual, so he mobilized us to participate. “

“You all know what happens next.”

The police officer’s pen never stopped writing, and he was filled with emotion.

The police officers outside who heard Yao Mingfang’s words also went to investigate the 23-year-old files. Unexpectedly, they found the file on the drowning of a female college student.

At that time, this incident was reported in the local newspapers, but the girl was regarded as a slightly negative example and was used as a warning to remind people not to go to deep water areas at will.

Gu Zhisang said calmly: “You can also check the other three people in this direction. They must have been related to someone who drowned in the Goddess Lake in the past, and were even the key reason for the other person’s drowning.”

Maybe if they dig deeper, they can find a hidden murder case!

“Good!”

Yao Mingfang sounded anxious and asked: “If I do everything you said, can you help me solve this matter?”

Gu Zhisang tugged at the corners of her lips and said in a cold tone: “Don’t worry about this. That ghost was a good person who accumulated good deeds and did good deeds during her lifetime. There is no reason for her to become evil and destroy her foundation for someone like you. Just for this reason, I will stop her.”

Yao Mingfang looked embarrassed and said: “But I didn’t mean it. I didn’t ask the water ghost to drag and drown her. I was just a child at the time, and I couldn’t swim. How could I save her?”

Gu Zhisang sneered: “You don’t understand where her resentment comes from?”

“She has never regretted sacrificing herself to save others, and she is not resentful because you didn’t save her. What she is angry about is your cowardice, selfishness, and recklessness. Until her death, her parents and the world didn’t know that when she was still alive. She is a brave hero, which her parents could be proud of.”

“Rather than being the negative teaching image in the newspapers and neighbors’ mouths about people drowning in the cold water.”

After saying that, she stood up and left the room.

The room where Yao Mingfang was left alone returned to silence. She was filled with mixed feelings and shame and burst into tears.

After walking out of the room, Gi Liaochan was full of admiration: “Sangsang, you are so awesome. You have straightened out the cause and effect! No wonder, these few people are so guilty that they paid for sacrifices. I’m afraid they all did something bad and were haunted by the ghosts!”

  1. It’s understandable that a child would struggle to escape due to fear, but it’s inexcusable that she didn’t report the young woman’s death even after she was rescued. I don’t know how she could live with herself all those years keeping such a secret and allow the young woman’s well-intentioned deeds go unknown.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
