Chapter 86: Hidden Hero (Part 3)

Gu Zhisang shook her head slightly and said, “It’s not a ghost.”

“Ah?” Gi Liaochan was stunned.

“Yao Mingfang is not haunted by ghosts. I lied to her, and the ‘ghost on the bed’ she encountered at night is not real.” Gu Zhisang said: “From the beginning to the end, she was invaded by nightmares. The fierce ghost she saw was not a ghost, but a ‘nightmare’ formed by the ghost’s resentment.”

“I’m afraid the same is true for several other people. Their nightmare is so real that they can’t tell if it’s true or not.”

Gi Liaochan didn’t expect Gu Zhisang to say that and stopped in her tracks.

Gu Zhisang said: “In addition, Yao Mingfang said that the reason why she was so afraid was because the dead soul incited her emotions many times. So this time, she went to the Goddess Lake, thinking to end this matter.”

“I think the reason why the lady drowned herself in the Goddess Lake the night before yesterday is also because of this nightmare. It’s just that many people haven’t told the truth.”

Gi Liaochan had a headache: “This case becomes even more confusing…”

“That’s right.” Gu Zhisang said: “First, most of the people who drowned in the ‘Goddess Lake’ will turn into water ghosts. It’s impossible to affect the people on land. If they have such a powerful ability to cause such incidents, there is no need to wait for 3 months.”

Gi Liaochan suddenly understood and took over the topic: “So something must have happened in the ‘Goddess Lake’ 3 months ago, which caused the water ghosts at the bottom of the lake to greatly increase their abilities. They can turn their resentment into nightmares to seek revenge and take their lives!”

Gu Zhisang nodded: “Secondly, the case of the boy’s body is probably hidden, and it cannot be lumped together with other cases.”

“In short, this case involves a lot. If we want to find the key points of the problem, we have to go to the ‘Goddess Lake’ to take a look.”

After thinking about it, Gi Liaochan nodded and said: “Okay, I will arrange this matter.”

About an hour later, Gu Zhisang and Gi Liaochan came to the lake again after coming out of the police station.

This time, colleagues from the local spiritual team rented a speedboat for them.

One of the group members looked melancholy, looked at them with worry, and asked in a low voice: “Boss, are you and Director Gu going to the lake? The senior before was seriously injured and hasn’t woken up yet. I’m worried that something might be in the water…”

Gi Liaochan said: “Don’t worry, we are just going to take a look, and we won’t open an altar or practice anything.”

Under the worried and nervous gazes of the team members, Gu Zhisang and Gi Liaochan got on the speedboat and sailed to the center of the lake.

The further you drive into the lake, the wider your surroundings become.

Gu Zhisang looked around, with a hint of admiration in her eyes, and said: “This place is a geomantic treasure. The lake shape is narrow on the outside and wide on the inside to collect the earth’s energy. There are tall buildings in the northwest to gather people and transportation, while it’s surrounded by mountains in the southeast. This place can toss repeatedly the luck of the people in the lake, which can be said to be a ‘geomantic treasure’.”

“There must be spiritual beings under such Feng Shui lakes.”

Gi Liaochan was a little surprised and asked: “Sangsang, do you mean that the ‘Goddess River’ that the people nearby said and saw should be real?! Is that like what my previous colleagues said? In that case……”

“Not necessarily.”

Gu Zhisang slowly shook her head: “If this kind of feng shui lake has naturally formed spiritual objects, it will not go astray easily, unless the thing bred under the lake has never been a spiritual object, but a vicious one!”

As she said, this ‘Goddess Lake’ can absorb the earth’s energy and people’s luck. It was a treasured place for any person, beast, or ghost who has the right path and has stepped into the lineage of latent cultivation.

However, if there was something evil hiding and breeding at the bottom of the lake, it may quietly breed something dangerous!

After the speedboat made two turns, it arrived at the lake-center pavilion built in the center of the Goddess Lake.

Gu Zhisang saw a patch of green aquatic plants floating near the lake pavilion from a distance, mostly duckweed, lotus, and other plants.

But the closer she got to the pavilion in the center of the lake, the more she felt that the temperature on the lake was colder and lower.

Although the green plants and water surface could cool down, Gu Zhisang still frowned slightly, always feeling that something was wrong.

There were many iron rings and chains melted on the edge wall of the pavilion. These were set up to facilitate the tourists who rent boats and row to the pavilion by themselves to dock and disembark.

Every ship has a chain connected to an iron ring. As long as the hook of the chain was hooked into the ring, the ship would not drift with the current.

After landing on the shore, Gu Zhisang could more clearly see the lotus flowers, duckweed, and other lush grass and leaves around the pavilion.

Not knowing what she saw, she paused for a moment, walked to one of the grass blades, squatted down, and gathered the long leaf stems into her hands.

Seeing this, Gi Liaochan also came over, “What’s wrong, Sangsang? What did you find?”

“What kind of grass is this?”

“World flora, it’s a common plant along river banks, but…why does it grow in the lake?”

Gi Liaochan also squatted down, reached out and touched the slightly turbid water, and felt a thick layer of mud on the wall of the pavilion.

Gu Zhisang’s face darkened, she sneered, pulled out the straw in her hand, and handed it to Gi Liaochan:

“Look at the top.”

Gi Liaochan saw that the top stems and leaves of the rushes had been artificially cut off, revealing a small opening in the hollow of the stem, as if through this small hole, the world above the water surface and the world below the water surface were connected.

And the strangest thing was that this grass was not the only one like this.

If people observe, they will find that the various aquatic plants spread out in all directions around the lake pavilion are several types of plants with hollow rhizomes.

They were more or less pruned, exposing hollow stems.

When Gu Zhisang didn’t remind her, Gi Liaochan couldn’t notice these details at all, but when she noticed it, she found that the entire lake was like a sieve filled with holes, which looked a little weird no matter how you looked at it.

Gi Liaochan faintly sensed the atmosphere of conspiracy and knew that this must be abnormal, but she did not understand the purpose of these hollow-stemmed plants.

“Sangsang, what on earth is going on?”

“This is why the water ghosts in the ‘Goddess Lake’ can transmit their condensed resentment to the land and affect the people around the lake.”

Gu Zhisang walked along the corridor to the center of the pavilion, and finally couldn’t help but sneered: “What a clever and vicious method!”

Outside the arc-shaped lake pavilion fence, there are many hollow aquatic vines wrapped around it. The layers on the water surface spread to the bottom of the water surface.

It was like a “ladder” made of plant roots, connecting the water surface and the pavilion.

Gu Zhisang said: “These vines should have been carefully designed.”

“Like earthbound spirits, people who drowned and turned into water ghosts, cannot easily leave the place of death and cannot be reincarnated. The easiest way is to find a substitute. Some people use this pavilion as a connection point between the lake and the land. These hollow plants like ‘ladders’ are the best tools for water ghosts to climb onto land!”

This ‘ladder to the land’ was similar to the gate of hell, connecting the yin and yang.

With it, the resentment of water ghosts can take shape on land, turn into nightmares, and enter people’s dreams, constantly threatening and bewitching.

Once an unlucky person with a weak mind is entangled, not only will his energy be exhausted, he will fall into depression and panic within a few days.

After a little time, this person would easily be affected by resentment and have thoughts of suicide.

Then he will go to the ‘Goddess Lake’ and throw himself into the lake.

Only when this person blinded by resentment dies will he realize that this was not relief at all, but that he was treated as a substitute and taken advantage of.

Become a new water ghost and be locked in the lake.

At this time, Gu Zhisang finally understood why the temperature dropped closer to the Lake Pavilion.

That’s because the gloomy yin energy buried under the water for thousands of years from ancient times to the present was steaming to the surface of the lake through these ‘ladders’!

  1. Whoever created the “ladder to the land” via the plants is quite clever and vicious, but I don’t understand what exactly they would get from it unless they truly are breeding something evil in the lake or if they just harbor hatred for someone related to a death in the late, and so targeted anyone connected to the lake; it’s most likely the former, though, but I don’t understand how they could do that without being seen by others.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
