“Flies and bedbugs crawl all over the corridor every day. Isn’t it disgusting!”
The community worker wiped his sweat and said embarrassed: “We have tried to adjust it several times, but he doesn’t listen to us…”
“So that’s it? And don’t you know, when I went to work early a few days ago, I saw a young woman who was not dressed properly coming out of his house? They always did that thing and made noises that disturbed the neighbors at night. Do you think this doesn’t affect the community’s atmosphere? Isn’t that a good reason to expel him?”
The neighbor lady in pajamas was full of anger: “If your community doesn’t care, I will call the police sooner or later!”
Gu Zhisang and Gi Liaochan looked at each other. The address in their hands was written with ‘403’ at the end.
When the neighbor lady saw the two of them, she immediately stopped talking: “Who are you looking for?”
“We are police officers investigating a case.” Gi Liaochan took out a work badge engraved with the badge of the Hunan Provincial Police Department, and then asked: “This lady, can you tell us more about… this 403?”
The neighbor lady was stunned: “I just said that we need to call the police to take care of this 403. Sister Police, you came at the right time. Has any neighbor called the police?”
“I can’t stand this 403. I don’t know where this nouveau riche came from and moved to our place. He dresses like a local tycoon every day and has brought several women home secretly to spend the night! If they aren’t a whore, then what are they?”
Gu Zhisang didn’t say anything, and listened to the old lady continue to complain:
“He doesn’t go to work every day, and he’s always drunk when I meet him in the corridor, and he’s dirty and smelly! He plays music at home all day long with the door closed while making a lot of noise. And I often hear him getting drunk and cursing…”
“There are youngsters in our building who are still studying. How bad influence is he? Also, my other old neighbor 401 has a daughter in her 20s at home. But now, she doesn’t dare to live at home since he moved here.”
“Anyway, I really can’t stand this guy!” The neighbor lady sighed.
If these neighbors were not afraid of conflicts with this tenant, and felt that he was not mentally normal and was afraid of something happening, they wouldn’t bear it and argued with this man.
The community worker holding the repair tools also nodded repeatedly: “That’s right, we contacted the landlord, but he didn’t care, saying that the other party had paid half a year’s rent… It’s difficult for us to encounter such unreasonable residents.”
Gu Zhisang could hear deep dissatisfaction from the neighbors.
As the old lady said, there were bags full of garbage piled up at the door of Liang Youkang’s house. Some bags were broken, and the dirty water inside flowed to the ground and dried up. The smell was hard to describe.
She asked: “You said he looks rich?”
The neighbor lady: “I think so. He wears a gold chain around his neck for fear that others won’t tell him that he’s rich. But I don’t know if it’s true or not.” The neighbor lady curled her lips and said.
Seeing that the two were about to knock on Liang Youkang’s door, she was still a little nervous: “You two little police officers, you have to be careful!”
After knocking on the door a few times, the door of 403 was opened from the inside.
The door was only a crack open, and a hoarse and unpleasant voice came out first: “Who is it?”
Then a burst of unpleasant smells came out from the crack of the door, which was the same as the fishy smell on Gangster Zhao, but it was even more smelly and disgusting.
Gi Liaochan held her work ID and said coldly: “Police officer, you are Liang Youkang, right?”
The person inside the door paused for a moment, and then slowly opened the crack of the door a little wider, standing in the shadow behind the door: “What do you want to talk to me about? Didn’t I say that all the affairs of that bitch and her adulterer have nothing to do with me? I don’t want to know or care about them! Whether that surname Zhao is sentenced to death or life imprisonment, it has nothing to do with me.”
The stench was more obvious when he spoke, and it was the breath that came out of his mouth.
Gi Liaochan frowned, and endured the discomfort, and said: “We came to ask something else.”
“…… Come in.”
The door creaked open, and Gu Zhisang stepped in first.
After entering the house, the warm stench inside was particularly unpleasant, with a mixture of fishy, sour, and rancid odors, but she remained calm and didn’t even break her expression.
The room was very dim, with no light except for a small dim light;
There were food garbage bags everywhere on the ground, messy bedding and clothes piled on the sofa, and unwashed dishes on the table.
Liang Youkang took a cup and filled a glass with water for the two of them: “I’m sorry, two police officers. I’ve been in a bad mood recently and don’t have time to clean the house. You can just sit over there for a while.”
“What else do you want to ask me?”
The cup was held by Gi Liaochan despite the discomfort.
She found that the cup seemed to have been drunk without washing, and some translucent mucus that was different from water could be seen on the rim of the cup, emitting a faint fishy smell.
Gi Liaochan looked at Gu Zhisang, and moved her lips slightly to lower her voice: “Is he cursed?”
With the faint light, Liang Youkang’s appearance was visible.
He can no longer be considered a normal, healthy person.
The man’s face was pale blue, his hair had not been combed for a long time and was covered with visible grease, and he looked lifeless.
What frightened Gi Liaochan was that, in addition to the dirt and stench, Liang Youkang’s eyes looked strangely stiff under the light.
The pupils were rigid and dark, and the whites of his eyes were cloudy, like the eyes of a dead fish.
Such eyes seemed to affect his vision, and he didn’t notice Gi Liaochan’s actions of secretly wiping her hands and slightly tilting her head.
In addition, Liang Youkang’s skin outside his clothes, neck, arms, back of his hands, and even his face had round flesh-red bumps with strange shapes.
Some were protruding from the skin, while some were tightly attached to the skin and flesh, like pieces of fish scales.
At the same time, Liang Youkang, like Gangster Zhao in prison, took his dirty cup and started drinking water as soon as he sat down, scratching his skin and scalp with his long nails filled with dirt and dandruff, and his dry dandruff that was scratched off flew everywhere.
Gu Zhisang looked at him coldly as she said: “This is what the victim of a water ghost looks like when it is heavily entangled with resentment. The man surnamed Zhao in the prison will become like this sooner or later.”
She spoke in a low voice, and Liang Youkang, whose five senses were beginning to degenerate like a fish, did not hear clearly: “What did you say?”
Gi Liaochan took over the topic and turned on the recorder: “Mr. Liang, your neighbor just reported you for soliciting prostitution. What do you want to say?”
Liang Youkang smiled awkwardly: “Officer, don’t listen to the gossipy woman next door. She is a troublemaker and has always disliked me. This is slander! I am seriously looking for a new partner to get along with.”
“You also know what happened in my family not long ago. People outside laughed at me and said I was a cuckold. I felt uncomfortable and moved away. She can do such shameless things, but you don’t allow me to find another one?”
When mentioning his deceased wife, Liang Youkang looked resentful and annoyed.
Gi Liaochan: “Then do you know that Liu Mouxin was not killed by Mr. Zhao?”
When she asked this question, Liang Youkang, who was sitting on the sofa, stood up directly because he was too shocked.
Under the gaze of the two women, he realized that he had overreacted and smiled stiffly:
“Two police officers, are you kidding me? Didn’t that surname Zhao admit that he did it and was arrested by your police brigade?!”
Gu Zhisang said lightly: “It was like this some time ago, but don’t you know that when he heard that he was going to be sentenced to death in court, he changed his mind.”
“He now says that he was wronged and did not kill Liu Mouxin. He said that he was taking the blame for the real murderer and asked us to re-investigate the case.”
Liang Youkang’s wide-open dead fish eyes gradually became fierce, staring straight at Gu Zhisang and Ge Liaochan:
“Officers, what truth can a murderer say? You won’t believe his sophistry, right?”
He was indeed very concerned about this case and had been following the latest developments in real-time. He did know that Gangster Zhao was going to appeal.

I have to say that even prostitutes should have some standards, especially with someone like Liang Youkang who reeks of a foul stench, hasn’t bathed in a long time, and whose physical appearance doesn’t resemble a normal human. Based on his reaction with regards to the murder of his wife, though, he must aware of the true killer and is also hiding the truth for money. In all of this, I just feel sorry for Liu Mouxin’s son, brothers, and parents because their image of her might have been wrongly tarnished with them none the wiser.
Thanks for the chapter! 😀
