Chapter 93: Ghosts from Old House (Part 1)

Gu Zhisang couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow when she heard Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s story.

The less courageous viewers in the live broadcast room were also frightened:

[The hairs all over my body stood up! I was still drowsy at first, but now I am completely awake.]

[Help, just listening to this description makes my calves weak. This is too weird. Why would I sleep in a dead man’s empty bed? Don’t the adults know that the child is not at home or in bed?]

[Based on the experience of so many previous cases, it is reasonable to think whether this family has provoked the old man in the opposite house, made him hold a grudge, then turned into a ghost when he died and came to seek revenge on the kid?]

[He must have been taken away by a ghost! There are rumors of “ghost trappers” in our rural areas. It is said that it is most likely to be entangled by evil spirits and bumped into things at noon or midnight.

When being carried away by a ghost, the person’s head is dizzy, and it feels like the soles of the feet are floating in the air and not touching the ground, being dragged away by something invisible! If there is a deep well nearby, they will be thrown directly into it. When the family discovers that the person is missing the next day, the person has already died in the well!]

[……]

Laughing Mouth Always Open‘ held the phone in her hand, so she saw the bustling replies in the comment section of the live broadcast room.

Seeing the words ‘he was already dead when he was found’, she felt scared and panicked in her heart.

At this moment, Gu Zhisang on the other side of the screen asked: “What happened after that? Something else must have happened to make his fate line weaker and weaker, right?”

Laughing Mouth Always Open hummed and continued talking about the strange things surrounding her son in the past two days.

“My husband and I were still skeptical at the time. We thought something mysterious happened. After all, how could a living person disappear from the house and appear in another’s house out of thin air?” Laughing Mouth Always Open said.

“I’m sure I looked at Xiao He’s bed that night, and the bedding in his room in the morning was messy, and not taken care of, which means I didn’t remember it wrong.”

Her son went to bed the night before.

But no matter how naughty and mischievous he usually was, he was just a nine-year-old child’

Looking at her son who was crying with grievances on his face and kept saying that he wasn’t running around, she didn’t think he could do such a bad thing as running out of the house in the middle of the night just to scare his parents.

Could it be……

Is there something weird in that house opposite?!

In a hurry, she took her son back home and told his father-in-law about the incident after he woke up.

‘Dad, what happened to the empty house opposite you? Did an old man die?’

The father-in-law said ‘yes’.

According to what he said, the resident of the earthen house across the street from the house was an old man surnamed Wang, who was the same age as him and was also 80 years old.

The two old people were born not long after the founding of the Xia Country. During the times of poverty and hardship. They were both from the same village, and they grew up rolling mud in the mud together.

But Old Man Wang’s family was poorer. He only has a lame father and two and a half acres of land. After working diligently for a year, the harvest can barely sustain his livelihood.

Later, when he was in his twenties, he married a woman he met in the next village, gave birth to a child early, and lived a peaceful life for several years.

On the contrary, Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s father-in-law. After getting married, he had no children until he was in his early 40s. He had been to the hospital countless times for check-ups;

After he went to a major hospital in the capital for a checkup, the doctor said there was nothing wrong with his wife, but he was the one with the problem.

Suffering from some kind of asthenozoospermia, it was difficult to have children.

During that time, the old man lived a very frustrated life in the village because the villagers always said that he was a bachelor and that he would not be able to support himself in old age without a son. He moved out of the village in anger.

Unexpectedly, less than two years later, the middle-aged couple, both in their forties, unexpectedly became pregnant with Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s husband. This made her parents-in-law extremely happy!

After the child was born, the family was destitute. The father-in-law looked at his son waiting for food, and then at his wife who was still in confinement. He gritted his teeth and secretly followed a few bold gangsters in the local area to start a business.

There were times when the situation was so dangerous that he was almost arrested and sent to jail.

Relying on his tempered courage and primitive accumulation of assets, the father-in-law, who was half buried in the earth in his fifties, followed the trend of the times and went into business.

When the father-in-law became a relatively well-off family, he returned home with his teenage son. He then discovered that his childhood friend he once envied was no longer as peaceful and happy as he once was.

Old Man Wang wore a dirty shabby coat. His head was gray and messy before he was sixty years old. His face was covered with grooves and his eyes were numb and sad. He lived alone in that old shabby house.

After asking around with other people in the village, Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s father-in-law found out that his childhood friend had gone through a miserable life after he left the village.

Their family worked in poverty and hardship on the loess land. The only son wanted to change his destiny. He heard the rumors from the people in the village next door who went to the sea to buy clothes and sell them in the city. He didn’t want to live in poverty all his life farming, so he took his family away behind Old Man Wang’s back. They went to the capital.

As a result, he offended a local gangster and was hacked to death.

He has been dead for more than two years.

Due to the death of their son, Old Man Wang’s wife was greatly shocked and soon gave up, leaving him alone in the village, living like a zombie.

Hearing about the tragic incident in the old man’s family, the father-in-law also felt very sad.

A few years later, when his son became an adult, he finally couldn’t work anymore, so he chose to return to his hometown to retire.

This time, the two old men were almost seventy years old, and they were neighbors again like they were when they were children, but their lives were completely different.

Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s father-in-law has a pension and his savings. The house at home has been renovated and expanded and has all the appliances. He usually listens to the radio at home and goes fishing.

It was a very pleasant life.

But across the road, Old Man Wang was dying and had a rickety back. He grows vegetables in his small yard. He usually goes to the vegetable market to pick up garbage and pick up some wilted and torn vegetable leaves.

Two months ago, Old Man Wang’s physical condition was already very poor.

When Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s father-in-law saw him walking out of the house, he felt that he was as thin as a skeleton. He was afraid that this old man didn’t have much time left.

Sure enough, within a few days, he found Old Man Wang’s stiff and smelly body in the room.

Old Man Wang passed away due to a sudden illness. Before his death, he was in great pain and his last facial expression was in suffering.

He was childless and alone, with no one to prepare his funeral arrangements.

In the end, Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s father-in-law saw that he was pitiful, and after some discussion with the village committee, he donated money to buy him a thin coffin and buried him in the back hill.

After hearing about the strange things that happened to his grandson, Laughing Mouth Always Open‘s father-in-law still didn’t believe it:

‘No, Old Man Wang has always been honest and kind. In the past few years, if I can help him, I helped him. I originally called on the villagers to donate money for his coffin. He won’t harm my grandson!”

‘Besides, even if he has a grudge, he will take revenge on me. He has been gone for more than a month, but I am not sick, I didn’t encounter any disaster, or any evil…’

The family talked about it all morning, but they couldn’t explain it clearly.

They finally decided to take Xiao He to a reputable shaman in the village the next morning and ask people to take a look.

That day, Xiao He was depressed because he was suspected of lying. He didn’t want to eat or talk to anyone.

At night, ‘Laughing Mouth Always Open‘ didn’t dare to let him sleep alone in the room, so she put her son between herself and her husband, and locked the doors inside and outside the house. Unexpectedly, before midnight, her son suddenly developed a fever.
