Chapter 44: The child disappeared a few years ago

Even if they were beaten to death, Si Chaoqun and Luo Xuehua would not tell the truth about it to Qi Mohan.

It was too unbelievable to say that they had traveled through time. Even if tell him about it, they are afraid no one will believe it.

After all, Si Chaoqun used to be the boss in charge of such a large commercial building, and he would do what he needed to do and stay calm in the face of danger.

“The Si Si that this lowly one just mentioned is our poor daughter. Unfortunately, that child disappeared a few years ago…”

Si Chaoqun wanted to say that the child had died a few years ago, but then he thought, he couldn’t curse his daughter like this, so he suddenly thought that the child had disappeared.

Qi Mohan savored the words carefully and didn’t find any flaws.

So to say, the Si Si the other party mentioned was not the Si Si who had given them great help.

After determining the most important question, Qi Mohan continued to ask in a cold voice: “Why are you here late at night?”

To not give Si Chaoqun a chance to quibble, he pointed in the direction of the village and asked: “Is there anyone living there?”

When asked like this, Si Chaoqun’s family was immediately identified as coming from that village. If they were smart people, they would not deny it.

Through the memory of the original owner, Si Chaoqun judged that Qi Mohan was a good prince who loved his people. At the same time, he was proven that he was not a prince who killed innocent people.

Therefore, Si Chaoqun decided to take a gamble.

“Your Majesty, this lowly one’s brother-in-law is Qiao Zhenwu, the former governor of Qiushui City. This lowly one’s family followed him there.”

Qi Mohan didn’t say a word but raised his chin slightly to indicate that he should continue.

Si Chaoqun gritted his teeth and continued: “This little one thought that by following my brother-in-law, we wouldn’t go hungry and survive the disaster smoothly. Unexpectedly, after bringing this lowly one’s family to this village, we would fend for ourselves.”

“Fortunately, before the drought, this lowly one saved some money and found ways to buy grain at high prices to support our family.”

“Now this lowly one’s family has spent all their money and has little food left. To make ends meet, I decided to take my wife and child out to look for opportunities.”

As for the original owner’s instigation of Qiao Zhenwu to leave Qiushui City, he would not admit it even to death.

To make himself look more pitiable, Si Chaoqun’s acting skills soared, and he wiped tears in front of Qi Mohan. Anyway, it was raining heavily, and the sky was dark. Who could tell if he was crying or not?

Logically speaking, Qi Mohan wouldn’t believe this kind of rhetoric, let alone pity such a person, but for some reason, Si Chaoqun could always find something familiar about him.

Qi Mohan even felt that Si Si had something to do with this strange feeling.

As for the question of asking the other party, how many families lived in the village or the like, his subordinates had already checked and reported it. This question was just to check if Si Chaoqun would tell lies, but whether he answered or not was important to Qi Mohan.

Si Chaoqun didn’t know Qi Mohan’s psychological activities. From his point of view, there were not many princes with such selflessness in history. Living in such a fiefdom was a blessing.

Although what he just said was not the behavior of a gentleman, as a bystander, his heart was still more inclined towards Qi Mohan.

Thinking about this, Si Chaoqun still reminded: “When the prince leads people to the village, be sure not to take the main road. Someone has set a trap at the entrance of the village.”

Si Chaoqun said this. On the one hand, the purpose of reminding him was to hope that Qi Mohan would do some good and let our family of three go. No matter what happened, it would be good if he could save his life.

However, it doesn’t matter. Anyway, it’s not like they wanted to be here. If they die, they die.

But Si Yu was only a ten-year-old child after all, and suffering such an unreasonable disaster was something that they, the two souls from the future, could not accept.

After saying this, Si Chaoqun stopped looking at Qi Mohan’s direction, which made people look like he was resigned to his fate.

This was indeed the case. Although Si Chaoqun was not a native of Daqi, he had watched costume TV dramas before. There was no perfect law. How to deal with a person mostly depends on the mood of the person in charge.

Therefore, he felt that whether his family of three could escape this disaster depended entirely on Qi Mohan’s mood.

To everyone’s surprise, Qi Mohan didn’t order his subordinates to arrest the three members of the family, but only ordered two people to send them to Qiushui City, and then rushed back to the village ahead.

Si Chaoqun and Luo Xuehua never thought that Qi Mohan would just let them go, and even sent someone to take them back to Qiushui City.

It can be said that happiness came so suddenly that neither of them felt relaxed, and instead felt even more uncomfortable.

Their original plan was to sneak into Qiushui City unnoticed and take his surname as someone who had returned home after fleeing. Now Qi Mohan knew about their relationship with Qiao Zhenwu. After returning to Qiushui City, they don’t know what future awaits them.

Luo Xuehua cursed in her heart, why their current situation was different from the time-travelers written in the novel. They don’t have any golden fingers but encounter such an embarrassing situation.

The two of them were thinking a lot while following Qi Mohan’s men to Qiushui City in the rain.

The news provided by Si Chaoqun just now said that there was a trap at the entrance of the village, which Qi Mohan’s subordinates hadn’t discovered.

His subordinates were searching for the whereabouts of this group of people in secret, and naturally, they would not take the main road. It was not surprising that they did not find a trap at the entrance of the village.

Now with Si Chaoqun’s reminder, Qi Mohan and his men successfully escaped those harmful traps and captured all the people in their sleep.

Qi Mohan ordered his subordinates to search the courtyard where everyone lived. Almost half of the money in the public account that had been taken away by them was left, but not much of the food they had hoarded was left. It seemed that they had taken advantage of it. We were in a situation where we had money but could not buy food.

Han Yi stared at the group of people fiercely, and then asked Qi Mohan: “My lord, how should we deal with these people?”

Hearing that they were going to be punished before Qi Mohan could give any instructions, the group of people knelt and kowtowed: “Your Majesty, I know I was wrong, please show mercy to Your Majesty…”

“Your Majesty, we all know we were wrong, please spare our lives…”

“Your Majesty, we are just slaves without freedom. We must follow the master wherever he goes. This slave unjustly…”

On the rainy night, the cries and begging for mercy got louder and louder.

Qi Mohan didn’t look at them. He turned around and ordered in a cold voice: “All of these people will be demoted to slave status, then send them to the village to work as coolies for the rest of their lives.”

He wanted to chop off the heads of these people in a fit of rage.

But it was too cheap to let them die like this, leaving them to work as coolies in the village to compensate for the damage to Qiushui City.

Many of the people in the field were once officials of Qiushui City. Who among those who can be officials can be a fool?
